Resonance changed the flow, as well as the mandrel bent not disturbing the flow of the exhaust gas, i.e. "turbulence" due to the uneven form of the piping, the terrible curves of the crush bent as well as the wrinkles in the metal cause a buildup of gas, gas that is moving at high speed and expanding; which equals back-pressure.
