What would people sugest for a turbo for a b8b?
I was just wondering what would be the best turbo for a b18b? I'd like one with great response around 25-35 rpm range. I heard the super 60 is good from some and others say its good only for those who wan't to run boost over 15 psi? I already have a turbo but it spools way to high rpm its a 57 trim. If anyone could help me i'm all ears.
OEM .60 trim on an LS is a never fail way to fun.
Most of the Super 60 sold... aren't.
Straight T3 compressor runs out of steam over 15 psi, real authentic Super 60 is a small improvement. Check the flow maps if you don't believe me.
A .57 trim compressor'd T3/T04 with "the usual" .63 AR stage 3 turbine should be good and spooled by 3000 rpms - you might have a problem with your setup. Last low CR 2.0/v-tech I touched had 8-10 psi by 2500 rpms with .60/.63 T3/T04 hybrid.

my 57 trim with "the usual" turbine spools 10 psi in the low 4000 rpm range in like 4th gear. by 5k it is ripping.
if you want the quick spool, the super 60 will work
57 trim, it's a t04E, it is a large compressor for the B18B, unless you have a built engine.
The quickest spooler for the B18B is the t3 60 trim 0.48 a/r turbine and 0.60 a/r compressor.
By 3000 RPM, it is fully spooled up and will not die on you at high RPMs all the way to 275 HP.
You can push it to 300 HP but if you want up front to play in the 250+ HP, you may want to go 0.63 a/r turbine with a T04B compressor.

There was a guy on H-T made 330 whp with a .60/.63 on an ITR. He spun it up 18 psi or so, had some insane IATs, too. I'm pretty sure that placed him a goodly bit OFF the compressor map!
Also dynojunk numbers, might have been more like 310-315 on another dyno. Still noteworthy.

AHAHAH!!! That was certainly pushing it!!!
THe 60 trim chart tells us that over 300 HP, efficiency is down to 65% !!!!!
Man that's low!!! Lots of overheating and not much extra power for every additional psi !!!
For that mather, even the 74% bullseye of the 60 trim compressor makes it look obsolete compared to more recent designs such as the Gt turbos with bullseyes approaching 80%...
I wonder what the flow chart of my special BP hybrids would look like
such as the t3 60 trim upgraded with a T04B V trim wheel
Or the T04B V trim upgraded with a T04e 57 trim wheel
I wonder if airesearch would accept to perform the flow bench testing on one of those frankenstein turbos?? Or maybe they would get mad to see how far from the factory specs their turbos are taken and they would sue me!!!
