Ok so I might get this turbo for my 48/60.....My assumption is this is a 60/63.....but it doesnt have ---- for who makes it etc....just .63 stamped on the exhaust housing.....LMK whatcha guys think it is....hopefully no ssac lol

*edit* Just noticed there used to be a tag on the turbo.....is there a specific company that posts that size tag or at that location id really like to find out who makes it and what size it is....also what power its capable of?

It seems to be a decent turbo, it doesnt share any markings with any of the SSauto turbo's on ebay from what I've seen but I just wanna find out for sure.....If I trade the kid im giving him my less than 400 mile old 48/60 garret for it so its gotta be a good turbo for me to trade....I just want something bigger for my ls....I dont like getting boost pre 2krpm....

Most SS/xs turbos comes with marking/tagged. BUT their manf. do make turbos without any printing or anything .

FYI failure rate on those turbos are 10% of their production. I`d give it a try if theres no shaft play.

Here goes my stab at it.

I definitely think that the turbo is NOT an SSauto. It was probably originally a 60/63 T3 (most likely from the T-Bird). The exhaust housing, I am pretty damn sure is a garrett .63 and the crack on the wastgate hole, looks like all 3 of the T-Bird turbo's I've had. It's also oil and watercooled.

From the size of the compressor, it looks like they was going for a T3/T4 hybrid type setup. That inlet is mucho big-o, I likes it. I'm gonna say that the compressor is most likely a generic one. In my opinion it's not a SSauto, it actually looks like a decent one. Might just be a T4 compressor, what's the outlet size? It's gotta be smaller than the inlet though for sure.

Somethings that worry me with that turbo, I doubt they just stuck on a compressor housing and called it a day. The compressor wheel looks really clean, I wonder if they replaced it. Also I would bet that they changed the backing plate too. Why does that worry me? I hope they did it right and didn't ---- it up. And that yanking of the 'badge' is pretty scary too, but at the same time you say there's minimal play, so that's nice.

But if they did a good job it looks like a good turbo. Since it seems like you have it in your possession, I say you slap it on and run it a little bit, to make sure that there are no leaks and it don't blow smoke. You shouldn't have to do too much to put it on. The outlet looks pretty small, so it shouldn't be too much bigger than your .42 housings outlet. And the most you would have to do to install it is proabably clock the turbo so you wouln't have to modify your piping much if any.

So I am 80% for the turbo. 10% iffy. 10% no.

Let us know what you do. Maybe I'll remember to check back here. GD is slow right now, so I come to the other forums for a little bit :P
