Default What do you think about this setup?

This setup is going to be going on my gf's 99 ex coupe(d16y. Just realistically looking for a little more oomf around town. Not having to downshift to pass someone, and just having a little more pull overall from lower to mid rpms without braking the bank.

I've already got:

- IHI RHB5 turbo off of a probe(8psi, which is what i believe factory WG is set at)
- probe blow off valve(dont know how well this will work yet, if all fails, dsm BOV here i come)
- probe Intercooler(backdoor style inlet/outlets might be a bit of a pain since she's keeping AC

Looking into getting:

- HF Manifold
- BMC Adapter plate
- 2" charge piping(too small?)
- Oil lines for the turbo + Oil restrictor
- GSR or Type R fuel pump(hoping this should suffice)
- dsm 390cc or 450cc (ideas on which would be better?)
- resistor box
- 2.5" downpipe?
- 2.5" exhaust piping
-Turbo timer
- and of course... TUNE! TUNE! TUNE!

Not looking for anything serious or aggressive. i just want to make sure the setup is highly EFFICIENT for minimal problems down the road. plz let me know what you think of the setup as far as being a safeproof setup! thanks!

sounds good for a start
1. i really doubt u'll be able to keep ac with HF mani
2. Maybe 2.5 charge pipes
3. u dont need new fuel pump for 8 psi on that tiny snail
4. either injectors would work just fine for you
5. are u gonna do full 2.5 exaust? dont waste ur time and money.
stock will be good for ur needs
6. scratch the turbo timer its probably worth more then the turbo
7. which fuel management?

first thing to watch for is

what size outlet does the turbo have? run with that size till the intercooler and then switch to the throttle size after intercooler!

also keep the size of the outlet of the turbo, no point putting a bigger pipe on the turbo if the compressor is tiny

running 8psi you wont need massive injectors, if it were 8psi, id go with the 390cc ones pends on price really

as for fuel pump u can get them pretty cheaply new i run a walbro GSS341 (255LPH) pump with 570cc injectors

turbo timer - you can make one if your uber with the eletronickz

yes tune is important, you also forgot a map sensor for boost ie 2-2.5bar map sensor

btw make sure you fit a fire extinguisher into the car, never know when crappy oil lines may decide to spew oil all over your 1000 deg turbo exhust housing and ignite....

other than that the setup should be sufficient, btw 8psi is more than a little "pull"... lol 3psi is a little pull, 6psi is WERE BOOSTING and 12psi is like "oh ---- were sideways"

personally id go with 6psi, you can change the actuator... i mean 6psi on a stock motor has less chance of blowing out piston rings and headgaskets... save you alot on maintence aswell... just some thoughts

You dont need MAP sensor for 8psi, hondas is good for 11psi
do not get crappy oil lines that spew oil all over ur turbo and ignite....
but in case u do get the fire extinuisher make sure u mount it so every one could see
dont be a -----, 8psi is nothing to be worried about

podxvost1:

1) i was kinda concerned about being able to keep ac with the hf mani. I have one sitting around for my setup so i guess i can mock it up and see how it fits.
3) I figured the snail wasn't going to need anything too killer for a fuel pump but i'll see if i can come across a cheap gsr fuel pump for insurance.
5) The car already has 2.25" custom piping catback so i guess that wont need to be changed then aye.
6) I'm more than sure that the turbo timer is worth more than the turbo but like i said, for less headaches in the future, it would be nice to have one. ESPECIALLY since its my gf's car and not mine.
7) Errr....fuel management will be uh...what the hell do they use for obd2 again? Uberdata?

PaRaDoX:

i'm glad you reminded me about the turbo inlet and outlet sizes and matching the charge pipes accordingly to them. As for an aftermarket fuel pump, most walbros go for something like $80 from what i last remember, and considering the small size of this snail...and if i dont REALLY need to upgrade the fuel pump, my research has been telling me that something along the lines of a gsr fuel pump should be good enough. Although i found this seller on ebay selling jdm itr fuel pumps for like $50 shipped. I'm definately not an uber electronics guru. I hate the idea of working on electronic components actually. I'm hoping to find an alarm that has a turbo timer already programed into it. As far as oil lines go, i'm looking at stealthmode of corse, and a select few other well known companies that sponsor forums like HMT and D-series.org. I can agree with you that 8 psi would probably be a little more than just SOME pull...but hey...its me that drives the car half the time hahah. I figure, if i'm going to be spending about $500 or whatever magic number i end with, the car BETTER put a smile on my face after everything's all said and done.

Thanks for the replies so far though fellas. Definately good info so far.

you most likely will have to convert to obd1

yes, convert to obd1 to use crome or uberdata, i prefer crome
or to stay obd2 use AFC hack (but it sucks big time)

As much as I hate to say it, I'd rather see an fmu on an obd2 car than an afc. Just do a few degree static timing retard and tons of check valves :P

ahhh damn it. i REALLY didn't want to have to convert to obd1. I know its not entirely hard but its one of those tedious(sp?) and time consuming things that just slow you down and show minimal gains! STUPID OBD2!

Alright, next question: Does anyone ever get a re-tune on their turbo setups? Like 3 years down the line being boosted with no extra mods? I'd imagine that would be a good idea kinda like a super dooper tune up lol which includes a fresh tune. Also, how often would you guys recommend getting a turbo rebuild? These general questions are for both the gf's and my sake Thanks for the replies so far everyone!
