what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
I'm cheap, like almost everyone else here on HMT.com, so, should I just do a ton of research to find out everything I need for my t25/d16, or just buy a kit from stealthmode for $80. what is cheaper in the long run?

Re:what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
if you want a nice, well put together kit, get stealthmode's. if you dont mind not having an oil pressure sender right on the back of the block, do what i did. Take the sender to a parts place and get a brass barb fitting to fit there. Go buy a few feet of line (i used aeroquip socketless line, it was cheap), and if you want, get a tee and put the sender inline somewhere.

Re:what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
sorry to hijack your thread, but has anyone tried making their own hard lines? i mean using brake line type stuff - you can get a tubing bender and flare kit from harbor freight for $15-20 and aluminum tubing's a little over a buck a foot from the hardware store (i havn't looked for stainless). are the fittings really expensive or does everyone just like the look of braided lines? :)

Re:what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
braided lines do serve a purpose... I'll let you go for this one out on your own =)
STEALTHY you got my vote on this one! |

bobski: i thought about that but the way my car is setup i would have to make a lot of bends i and didn't want to have to keep making trips the the Auotparts sotre for missing pieces. With stealth's you know you can put you car onthe jack and atleast have you oil feed and drain line hooked up for the turbo if not anything I , personally, dont think the oil line and the part of the turbo kit you wnanna go cheap on. Charge pipes before anything my $.02 |
Re:what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
i made my own. ---- was under 10 bucks. took some 1/4" copper line... 1/4" compression fittings..hooked em on the ends after cutting the line to the size i needed... the compression fittings end up bringing the ends down to exactly 1/8". works perfect.

I did all my oil lines in brake line and rubber hose for the return. I bought all the necessary tee fittings and everything at NAPA for under $10. (2 returns and 2 feed lines ;D) SS is nice but not necessary, if your on a budget this is what I would reccomend. Make sure to use a tubing bender though to keep everything nice. Using brake lines also makes it real easy (and cheap) to install needle valves and gauges. If you are going to get SS get Stealthmode's. I never used them but damn they look nice and high quality |

Re:what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
LOL, thanks guys.
I actually came up with these kits trying to figure out my own oil lines. Then I decided people would probably rather pay for a kit than to go through the fitting/an/-? mess I went through. If you are going to make your own kit, I would highly suggest the tuner toys block fitting. Theres nothing easier to start with that will take care of most of your problems. The lines and fittings really aren't a problem because they are standard thread sizes (npt) but with the back of the block, I wouldn't do it any other way than with that fitting. (I don't sell them seperate, tuner toys does. ;)) |
Re:what is cheaper, buy oil line kit, make my own
i'm lazy, I look at it this way, I could spend a few hours researching the net for oil crap, or I could pick up a few more snow shoveling jobs, and make some extra money ($50 per hr), then buy the kit, MUCH EASIER!! I'll do that ;D it's all about being practical! ;)I'll go with steathmodes when we get another good snow.
