We all know that SSautochrome manis blow, but..

Re:We all know that SSautochrome manis blow, but..
First of all, the weight of the manifold has nothing to do with it's integrity. The other issue is runner size, most of these manifolds end up on 1.5 and 1.6 L motors, the MOST you need for a street driven car on 10psi is an 1 1/2 runner, SS look like at least that. Now I will agree that the welding looks sub-par, and the bracing is terrible, but the other issue is the fact that people hang turbos off off them and then get pissed when they crack!! What do you expect, hold a trubo up with your arm outstretched and see how long YOU last.
I'm not defending SS autocrap, BUT I do believe if the welds were a bit better and people actually braced their turbos properly, they wouldn't have half the issues they do. Just my 2 cents.

i used one for 7 mos. they can work fine if modified properly. reinforce the welds, support from wg flange to turbo flange, reinfore turbo flange to head flange, and support from turbo flange to block. it will work fine, but if you can't do all the fabrication yourself for free, you'd be better off getting a good manifold by the time you paid someone to do the modifications. hotrex, shut up, you were sucking my dick to buy mine for 75 bucks

Every manifold should be braced unless its cast design, a log manifold, using a small turbo, or your using some thick weld el's. Regular tubular designed manifolds that sit the turbo out far with lets say a heavy turbo like a T4, over time they will crack. We use Schedual 10 for our weld el's and have never had one crack.
The SS auto manifold uses 1 1/4 in runners to a very small collector. The flanges on this manifold are nice and thick, but the material they use is just to thin. I've seen several of these SS auto mani's crack even braced. It's a poor designed manifold, and I'd definatly find something else.

I was not looking at the SSauto for myself, I have a lovefab mani. A bud of mine saw one for dirt cheap and wanted to me to reinforce the welds. Is the general consensus that it is better, or worse than a log style, if reinforced?
