jago, think outside of the box... chop the exhaust housing in half and weld a 2.5in downpipe right off of it.

If I cut the exhaust housing in half the opening will be oval, not circular at all. I'm guessing that I can maybe crush a pipe to somewhat match the shape. Will my cheap *** flux core welder be able to weld this cast exhaust housing to a mild steel pipe, or is this something I should have an exhaust shop do?
the pic above looks like flux core to me.

No, its called the mig was out of gas, so we had to make due :P

I wouldnt suggest a little flux core machine for that, you need a pretty decent welder to make some penitration on that cast. (especially if you want it to last) making the 2.5in pipe fit inside the oval is really easy. I wish I had some better pics of exhaust housings chopped. We do it just about everytime we do HF/Mani setups. Cadracer was rolling the same turbo and we chopped his o2 housing and welded on a nice clean 3in pipe off the housing. No worries man, its reliable, just have the guy lay the mother of all god fatty beads (garrison style) and she'll hold up just fine.

yeah, just use lots of heat, wire brush the housing before you weld to it, youll be just fine.

3 or 2.5 is fine, I think 3in fits a bit better depending on how you cut off the exhaust housing. 3in downpipes are kind of a ----- to work with.

Average price would be 25-35 dollars I'd guess?
