warning: carb spring users

I decided to use a carb spring for my first turbo setup. It worked well. But from reading around on this forum, i was under the impression that the spring needed a lot of tension to hold the flapper shut. Well turns out the spring hardly needs any tension. Too make a long story short i blew all my ringlands by running 10-11psi (by accident) on a sohc zc with ~50k on it. but now i know, you dont need much tension on the carb spring!

btw, the carb spring worked great, im not sure if it was the carb spring, but when i shifted the boost spiked a bit.

i spooled up to 10 psi around 3000rmp with a 14b open downpipe.

10psi blew your ringlands with a 14b? What were you using for fuel? Nothing? I don't think the motor would have lasted much longer N/A if it blew at only 10psi. :-\ How long of a pull was it when it blew? It has to be a weak motor. I ------- abused a D15 with spikes past 14psi and never had a problem. I even ran the ---- out of it with a blown head gasket and overheating and the rings were fine after thousands of miles of abuse. :-\

i was using ghettodyne, 450cc injectors and 255lph walbro pump.

im pissed because the responces i've been getting is that the motor should not have blown.

Re:warning: carb spring users

Well it shouldn't have. Are you pissed at me for saying it? I'm not trying to piss you off, but damn. It really shouldn't have blown. That's crazy. My guess would be the motor was on it's last leg before this happened. :-\

boost doesnt break ringlands....it breaks rods...detination breaks pistons/ringlands....

Re:warning: carb spring users

btw i have used the carb sping also, would spike ~11psi all the time on the A6...pistons and rings where fine...

Re:warning: carb spring users

You would think if he was detonating that bad at such a low boost level he would have heard it and layed off the gas though? ???

i agree, def. sounds like a tuning problem, that much boost should've been fine
