Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
Ok im fairly new to turbo. I want to turbo my 2000 Civic SI. I have alot of questions. I want my car to be daily driven and to have enough power to get in the low or mid 13's. What type of turbo would be best for a pretty fast spool and plenty of power on top. Also do I really need to get a Hondata? I also saw a very good website on here on how to install a turbo if someone can post for me. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
If you want 13s daily driven, then get Hondata YES!
The turbo website is: http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~yelevich/turbo/turbo.html I have a homemadeturbo on my 99 Si. It's a straight T3 with a .48 exh/ .60 compressor. I ran a 14.1@94MPH shutting down at the end. I can get 13s with a better launch and not shutting down. Ideally though, Hondata and a T3/T4e turbo would be a great setup. |
Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
Hondata would be the way to go, but for the cheap ass DIY'er an AFC will do the job. A high 13 should be no problem for a B16 at 8-10 psi. A nice sized turbo and good tuning should do the job.

THanx man. Why in the website they don't use the filter?

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
An air filter? More power. I have recently found out the differences in filters. I lost one and ran it over and ended up using a piece of cloth just until I got a new filter. My boost went down to 6 from 10. Then I used a piece of silk. My car woulnd't even move. No boost and nothing over 3500 rpm. Now i run no filter (temperary) and I hit 11 psi at the same setting I was hitting 10 psi at.

In the website they didnt even mention a filter. Do you think its just better to run without one?

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
Better for more power, but not for street driving. One little rock gets sucked up in there and your turbo is shot. I wouldn't suggest running without one. Jeff just made a post not too long ago about what happened to a turbo when a rock gets sucked up into it. :-[

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
Hi Guys,
I am also a newbie. I have a 98 civic hatch with 1.6L engine. Not really sure what you call them in the US. Down here in Australia, they call my car civic CXi. I am ready to start on the turbo process. I need to know which particular T3 is a good one for me ? With what ratios to suit my engine. Do I have to lower my compression doing the project ? Cheers. |
Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si
Read this forum up and down. Everything depends on everything that depends on everything. What you are using the car for, how much boost do you plan on running, what you plan on doing to the motor, what you want to get out of the motor, how long you want it to last, how many pieces of toilet paper you use to wipe your ass with.........etc...etc....
