Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

Ok im fairly new to turbo. I want to turbo my 2000 Civic SI. I have alot of questions. I want my car to be daily driven and to have enough power to get in the low or mid 13's. What type of turbo would be best for a pretty fast spool and plenty of power on top. Also do I really need to get a Hondata? I also saw a very good website on here on how to install a turbo if someone can post for me. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

If you want 13s daily driven, then get Hondata YES!

The turbo website is:
http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~yelevich/turbo/turbo.html

I have a homemadeturbo on my 99 Si. It's a straight T3 with a .48 exh/ .60 compressor. I ran a 14.1@94MPH shutting down at the end. I can get 13s with a better launch and not shutting down.

Ideally though, Hondata and a T3/T4e turbo would be a great setup.

Hondata would be the way to go, but for the cheap ass DIY'er an AFC will do the job. A high 13 should be no problem for a B16 at 8-10 psi. A nice sized turbo and good tuning should do the job.

THanx man. Why in the website they don't use the filter?

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

An air filter? More power. I have recently found out the differences in filters. I lost one and ran it over and ended up using a piece of cloth just until I got a new filter. My boost went down to 6 from 10. Then I used a piece of silk. My car woulnd't even move. No boost and nothing over 3500 rpm. Now i run no filter (temperary) and I hit 11 psi at the same setting I was hitting 10 psi at.

In the website they didnt even mention a filter. Do you think its just better to run without one?

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

Better for more power, but not for street driving. One little rock gets sucked up in there and your turbo is shot. I wouldn't suggest running without one. Jeff just made a post not too long ago about what happened to a turbo when a rock gets sucked up into it. :-[

Hi Guys,

I am also a newbie. I have a 98 civic hatch with 1.6L engine. Not really sure what you call them in the US. Down here in Australia, they call my car civic CXi. I am ready to start on the turbo process. I need to know which particular T3 is a good one for me ? With what ratios to suit my engine.

Do I have to lower my compression doing the project ?

Cheers.

Read this forum up and down. Everything depends on everything that depends on everything. What you are using the car for, how much boost do you plan on running, what you plan on doing to the motor, what you want to get out of the motor, how long you want it to last, how many pieces of toilet paper you use to wipe your ass with.........etc...etc....

Hey99TurboSi what is your setup and how much horsepower are you getting from your setup? Also if you have run it at the track what kind of times do you have.

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

Is a T-25 sufficient enough to get around 250-300 horsepower? IM trying to run about 13's without upgrading any internals.

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

A T25 IS PROBABLY GOOD FOR A 1.5L NON-VTECH.BUT FOR A B16 GET A T3 OR A T3/T4. THE T25 WILL SPIN TOO FAST FOR IT'S SMALLER SIZE AT HIGH RPM LIKE ABOVE 6K RPM & IT'LL HEAT UP THE AIR TOO MUCH=LOOSING POWER AT HIGH RPM.

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

i have a t3 with saab intercooler, i havent the slightest idea of my power gains, it feel a hell of alot faster but my clutch is slipping to every time i race my friends eclipse gst he passes me at about 80mph because my clutch starts to slip, i bought another one and i was actually supposed to install it today but my stupid friend wants to hang out with his girlfriend, anyways, im running 6 PSI with vortech 12:1 FMU and that it for fuel management, i have even retarded my timeing because i have no idea how to do it.

aron2063 06-19-2003 09:34 AM

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

i mean i have not restarded my timeing, i'll be buy and new fuel pump later but for now this is fine, the car runs great and i have had it boosted for like 3 months or more, the only problem i've had is that if i dont let my car warm up before i drive it and i just go out and start burning around in it then my check engine light comes on and my car starts running like ass, other than that i havent had any problems, oh yeah i took out my air conditioning and its hot a mofo hear, but it was worth it.

Re:Want to turbo 2000 Civic Si

and another thing, dont get a t25, my turbo already looses power up top because it just can spin fast enough to keep up with my engine , at least thats what it feel like, get a t3/t4 if you can, it shouldnt be that hard.
