Default Very Custom Turbo-98 Civic DX

I read a while back about a Tiburon running 2 engines, and the guy had a custom turbo setup where the turbo was actually under the car and couldn't be seen with the hood popped. He was running alcohol, so he didn't need an intercooler. I thought that was a hell of a sleeper, but I was wondering how possible this would be on a 98 civic coupe.
Would there be issues with the oil lines, since the turbo would be somewhat even with the oil pan? I'm sure there would need to be a custom flange along the way somewhere. Could a small side mount intercooler be hidden in the fender to make it look like just a cold air intake? A recirculated blow off valve would definitely keep it quiet. I'm not looking for anything crazy, just a small turbo set at 7-8 psi. Has anyone heard or tried a setup like this? Or even think it would be possible? Any input would be great.

Its been done. Not too difficult if your clever enough. The main thing you would need to make this work would be an oil scavanging pump, you can get em @ summit, jegs, egay, etc. Do some searching (google, www.homemadeturbo.com ______)

BTW, post some ****. Or else.

Thx, any ideas on what to search for Just sleeper turbo? Custom turbo?
I'd love to help out on the ****, but I'm at work.

Remote mount turbo, STS Turbo are a few search words. Or check out www.khturbo.net for a setup on a V6 Cavalier, even has the pn for the Shurflo pump for the oil.

Done some reading on a few of the kits and on some forums. Found some pretty good ideas. No need for an intercooler if you mount the turbo far enough back, the air will cool the pipe on its way to the intake manifold. Also, instead of running the pipe to the intake manifold, I can run it through my stock air box, then into the intake manifold. Perfect sleeper. I hear the rear mount turbo's scream since they are so close to the end of the exhaust and usually run with no muffler. Would adding a muffler(stock, or stock looking and sounding) after the turbo get rid of the sound of the turbo spooling?

The turbo acts as a muffler, and odds are you will not have room for one after the turbo, and putting one before it further adds to the increased spool time. And whatever you have read about the extra piping cooling the intake charge, don't believe it. There are large, dyno-proven gains when taking a base STS Fbody kit and adding an FMIC. The piping doesn't have that much of an effect on the cooling of the air.

Isn't the turbo being outside the engine bay and not soaking up heat from anything besides exhaust gasses and compressed air beneficial? No radiator or engine block to keep it hot. I'm sure there would be quite a bit of a gain using an intercooler, but an intercooler wouldn't be completely necissary. I mean compressing the air and exhaust gasses are not the only things making it hot. Everything in the engine bay absorbs heat, and since none of it is in a direct path of airflow, it stays pretty hot. Especially with a turbo and more exhaust piping under the hood.
Anyody know what the underhood temps of a turbo are? I'll guess that the remote mount turbo temp is a bit hotter than your muffler would be, since it is compressing air and making a bit of extra heat. On the STS website it actually claims the turbo to be 500 degrees cooler than under hood systems. That is a huge number, and even half of that I would think is pretty beneficial at getting the coolest air possible into the engine.

An intercooler isn't necessary for any turbo setup, just provies an extra margin of saftey in terms of IATs. An idea I had was to figure out a liquid/air setup in the charge piping while underneath the car. You could mount the water tank right after the intake piping comes back towards the front of the car, and have a simple cooling element and pump system mounted underneath in the frame. Not sure how feasible that is on a Honda chassis, but it is just another idea. Another rather simple intercooling solution would be to mount a normal front mout on its face up against the underside of the frame, so that there wouldn't be a change in piping, you would just be replacing some of the piping with the intercooler. Something small like a 6" bar and plate (for better flow vs. tube/fin, since you will want the flow better since your piping will be longer) would probably work pretty well. You could even weld or otherwise attach a small air deflector to bring air into the intercooler core. Just throwing out random ideas. For me, any turbo setup running over 5-6 psig should have an intercooler or some method of lowering the IATs, and not just rely on a long piping setup to get the job done.

You could put a 1st gen DSM sidemount IC where the stock intake 'resonator' is located, assuming its there on EK's like the EG's do. Paint it black, and nobody would be the wiser.

There was also a red EG on HT that looked bone-stock, except for the turbo sticking out slightly from beneith the stock-looking HF/CX manifold's heatsheild. IIRC it had a bov in the airbox, and a sidemount below it.

where's stinky feet's red EG that he made into a sleeper. He used that truck hose for the charge lines and ran it through the airbox. The BOV was in the airbox too. He used an HF with the heat shield I believe. He used an Ebay FMIC but painted it flat black. You could barley see it through the grill.
