Upgrading stock ignition coil
Do you guys think that upgrading the ignition is neccessary for turboin'? I noticed that most of you use MSD, but is it needed? Will the stock system have trouble burning all the fuel?

Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
most of us use the msd 6 btm bevause it retards timing under boost. its just an added safty measure

Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
i heared you can use the stock coil with just the timing retard system and not the ignition box. true or just not safe?? iwould like my motor to last awhile

Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
You can do that, just don't boost too much, with good fuelmanagement it should last a long time, the retarding is just to prevent detonation and if you got a really good fuel management you won't have that much trouble.

Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
ell what would ou consider low boost, half a bar? I am going to run an SAFC 2, I think that woild be good enough. I also use 93-94 octane gas. The only issue is that the B16 loves to rev high am I going to have issues at 8200rpm?

Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
you may try 0.5 bar that's like a bit more than 7 psi.
Just start low start at 5 psi and clim up and retard as you go higher. listen really good for knocking. Be sure it the engine gets enough fuel. |
Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
I thought that the B16 has an antiknock sensor in it already, wouldn't that slightly retard the ignition?

Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
Oeps >. you were talking about a B16 hmm yeah it would.
Just do it If it knocks at 0.5 bar then retard a bit, but I don't think it will retard...with the cold weather and good gas you're all set |
Re:Upgrading stock ignition coil
What I meant to say is, that you will not have to retard it in mine opinion.
With the AFC hack you're safe Check this site http://www.thedropshop.tv/vafc.htm |
