the northstar has been offerd in a 4.0 liter configuation and for the later model caddys 4.6 liter . caddillac's first northstar was a 4.0 offerd in 95 and up vehicals . the engine in my olds aurora and in the pre 4.6l caddys are the same . your going to tell me that the engine in my car isint a northstar ? ive orderd countless parts online and in local parts stores to know that every single part from my 4.0 will directly innerchange with the 4.0 northstars ............ maby thats cuz IT IS!!!!!!!!!!! and i think you have your ---- mixed up ........... and sommore funn facts for your *** ,most of the engine mechanical parts from the 4.0 innerchange with the 4.6 alllllll except the pistons , crank and actual cylinder size is bigger by .6 of a liter . before you go setting people straght maby you should do some more research first and get your self straght. i have both engine covers for my 4.0 ..... i have the aurora v8 cover and the caddy 32 valve northstar cover ..... both exactly the same . the car i got the engine cover off of 96 deville ..... when i pulled the cover whatda ya know ! looks EXACTLY THE SAME AS my olds 4.0 ........ FTW!

heres some links to prove you wrong ....... Northstar

The engine was introduced in mid-1992 in the 1993 Cadillac Allanté and continues to be used in most Cadillac models. The original Northstar Allanté also introduced the Northstar System which included traction control, adaptive suspension, and antilock brakes.

The Northstar was sold exclusively by Cadillac for over a decade before being introduced in the 2004 Pontiac Bonneville and 2006 Buick Lucerne. However, the L47 V8 variant was used in the Oldsmobile Aurora and the 3500 LX5 V6 in the Oldsmobile Intrigue. The engine received a forged steel crankshaft in 2003. Cadillac is said to be planning to introduce a V12 Northstar this decade, likely for use in the Escalade.

Most Northstar engines produce 275 to 315 hp (205 to 235 kW). The engines were revised for 2000 with variable valve timing for improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, though power output did not change.

All but the supercharged Northstar displace 4.6 L (4645 cc/283 in³) with a 93 mm (3.66 in) bore and 84 mm (3.31 in) stroke. The supercharged version is de-bored to 91 mm (3.6 in) for a total displacement of 4.4 L (4371 cc/266 in³). The block is said to be capable of expansion up to 5.4 L, though no such engine has been produced.

The Northstar was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1995 and 1996.

He was my auto tech teacher at vocational. Still talk sometimes when I see him around town and at shows. Seen 3 of his northstars fieros I think. A red one that he drove quite a bit, Seen it on the dyno at school as well. Then his blue one, which is just rediculous. Good guy, best teacher that could be when he knows you wanna learn.

Did you buy one of his swaps?

So you from auburn or fort wayne area? where about?
