Twins vs single is really just a matter of packaging. 79 Trans Am should have enough underhood room it is irrelevant - do what you want.
As for turbo selection, since I'm ASSuming this is a bone stock LT1, I'm with hotsex on the pair of .42/.48 Saab units. All these guys recommending hybrids or GT turbos or straight T4's haven't the first clue - sorry, guys. Stock L98/LT1 had the rear bores #7/#8 incorrectly (under) clearanced, so when you hit at or over 400 whp the stock pistons expand due to heat, bind in the bores, and start busting things up real good. A single T3/T4 with .82 AR turbine and stage 5 wheel would exceed what the stock LT1 can take. |

As far as twins or singles-maybe the grass is always greener but after making twins, it seemed that making a single would be easier (fitting the turbo in the engine bay, IC connections). But I would not have done it any other way. Two banks of cyl, gotta have twin turbos.

one of my friends is running a gt40 on his lt1. psi is low but its still sick. takes a second to get going though, but thats probably cause it's in a 5000+ lb caddy
