twin turbo or single for lt1 350??

efi lt1 going into a 79 trans am.

whats better twin or single and why?? i know one big turbo is better then two small ones, but are two small ones better for building quick spool up??

any pros and cons would be great, trying to decide....

twins on v-8's are sex.

can spool up two decent sized snails pretty quick. and sometimes easier fabrication to match.

Twin y2k's is all you need, no problem spooling them up since you're running a v8 ;). If anyone else says otherwise, then you are dumb and gay : ). http://www.turboneticsinc.com/turbo_y2k.htm

thanks guys, i thought twins would be easier, then i wouldnt have to fuss with the cross over piping. but most homemade setups i see on v8s were massive single setups.

those y2ks look nice, but i think its a bit overkill, LOL 2000hp!!!

hotrex are you refering to this turbo:

On the LT1 I wouldnt go smaller then two T3/T4 hybrid ... I would even get to T4's
But if you got some money to spend get two GT30R's or bigger.

I think for twins, you do want the T3/T4 hybrids. You got an extra 50 ci on the mustangs. As far as twins or singles-maybe the grass is always greener but after making twins, it seemed that making a single would be easier (fitting the turbo in the engine bay, IC connections). But I would not have done it any other way. Two banks of cyl, gotta have twin turbos.

Twin T4s. You also want twin intercoolers.

Twins vs single is really just a matter of packaging. 79 Trans Am should have enough underhood room it is irrelevant - do what you want.

As for turbo selection, since I'm ASSuming this is a bone stock LT1, I'm with hotsex on the pair of .42/.48 Saab units. All these guys recommending hybrids or GT turbos or straight T4's haven't the first clue - sorry, guys. Stock L98/LT1 had the rear bores #7/#8 incorrectly (under) clearanced, so when you hit at or over 400 whp the stock pistons expand due to heat, bind in the bores, and start busting things up real good. A single T3/T4 with .82 AR turbine and stage 5 wheel would exceed what the stock LT1 can take.

one of my friends is running a gt40 on his lt1. psi is low but its still sick. takes a second to get going though, but thats probably cause it's in a 5000+ lb caddy
