Compound turbo not Twin turbo...

Head to a Ford dealer and open the hood on a 2008 Super Duty diesel. They are pretty quick stock for a huge truck.

Yeah they are pretty cool. I have only seen them on diesels though.

you are right, i didnt realise that, however, thats effectively what the bmw system is, just with the smaller turbo bypassed at higher revs and boost because it would be a nasty restriction.

anyone got more info on the 08 ford system? or is it just a basic compound setup?

Its a pretty basic setup. Theres nothing specail about the low pressure turbo, the high pressure turbo is a VGT similar to the turbo on the 6.0L diesels. In the past Ford was pretty tight with Garrett, but after lots of problems with 6.0L turbos, the 6.4l's turbos are made by Borg-Warner with a much stronger VGT actuator to avoid the old problems.
