Turboing a D15...
OK, ive got my turbo kit all pieced together and gonna start slapping it on when i get back from vacation. Setups basically gonna be:
T3 .42ar/.48ar hf mani/ adaptor plate 450 dsm inujectors safc hack Tyrus FMIC Now this is gonna be on my d15b7 in my del sol s. The engine has about 170k on it but runs smooth as hell. Ive had 2 turbo d16z6 in the past ( blew one of them up) What is thel imitations with the d15? Are the rods really as weak as everyone says? Is it alot weaker then a d16z6? Id really like to achieve 170-180whp at around 8psi with this thing, can the d15 hold up to this and is it capable? If youve had experience boosting a d15 please post up, thanks. |
Re:Turboing a D15...
wow,
looks like lots of people are going this same route now! seems like people are realizing that you've got a superlight car with a dx.. and a motor thats not too shabby.. so that + turbo = FUN! and you dont even have to do an engine swap! haha ;) anyways, i'm doing the same, and was asking these same questions. basically, the rods are weaker than the d16, but its not that big of a difference, dseries in general arefairly weak. But you should be able to run 8psi just fine. I dont know if you'll hit 180whp at 8psi, but you might. I think 170 is more reasonable. Definetely you want to get it tuned, but you're on the right track! i'm going with this setup personally.. 14b, hf/adapter, rx7 ic, dsm 450's, smc+ |

Re:Turboing a D15...
Are all these D15's DPFI or do you switch them over to MPFI or are they already OBD1/P06's to begin with?
Just last week we did a swap for a guy with an OBD1 D15 and dropped in a ZC Vtec (D16Z6 with different deck height and different pistons from what I can tell). It was easy as ----. A lot easier than I thought it woudl be. -Michael |
Re:Turboing a D15...
all the d15b2 engines from 88-91 came with DPFI.

Re:Turboing a D15...
I shake my head and wonder why you'd want the D15 bottom feeder when there is a tiny bit more displacement and a lot more base power available from a D16.

Re:Turboing a D15...
well if its what ya got, then run with it

Re:Turboing a D15...
I've got to give some D15 love... 8)
My setup: 93 civic dx (gutted) stock d15 engine std mani with adapter plate rbh5 turbo, stock 8psi wg safc dsm 450 cc injectors ford probe bov ford probe ic--custom top mount is in the works ;D (yes i'll post pics) uberdata setup in the works The only thing i'm missing is the charge pipes. I ordered them from JC Whitney like a week ago and they still haven't come. >:( I don't know how much my car weighs--does anyone have any idea how much a gutted dx coupe would be? I'll be lucky to hit 150 whp though. Not hoping for much as it is my first turbo project. |
