I have the motor out right now, putting some forged pistons in it. Also getting rid of the log manifold, and building a tubular equal length. The ------- ebay wastegate sucked my ***, (freebie) so 46-40mm tial is what I'm going to get. I'm also working on the intake piping, it's a non-crossflow head, and turbo is on the wrong side for the snokel so I am still thinking of a way to route everything together. Soon as I make some progress on it I'll grab some pictures. I can't wait to hear the turbo sucking air through the snokel, should be badass.

I imagine that 4.0 would spool a healthy size turbo up nicely and make some killer torque. How well do those heads move air? Those motors are around 275hp stock are they not? Also a local guy here[BC] has a FJ40 with a 22R turbo running a T28 and a standalone of which I cant remeber off hand.Seen it at the local dyno and I was talking to him he said the GT28 was a perfect match to the 22R.

It's a 3FE, what a dinosaur motor it truely is. The motor was based off the 235 Chevy L6, 8:1 compression, gear driven, and 12 valves of pushrod love. I think the head will be the bottleneck, the motor in it's stock form makes 155HP@4800rpm and 220LBS/FT@2200RPM. I wouldn't mind 300LBS/FT of torque, that is what my goal is for this setup. If I can do that, I will keep my 4:11 gear in there, that way I'm not constantly breaking driveline parts.

When I was researching the turbo for this truck, I went to Ray Hall's website and calculated the turbo CFM for the horsepower goals I was after. GT28R, was the clear winner, I can't wait to try her out!

Oh ---- I was thinking you had the newer engine which I guess is a 4.5L the 1FZ-FE I think it is.That old tank engine you got is great I dont know if I have ever seen a engine take such a beating for a prolonged period and make it out of the bush running.I think 300ftlb is pretty realistic goal.Keep the updates coming.

No ----! The 3FE is bulletproof, when I first got the LC the distributor was 180 degree out, and it still ran pretty decent. It has just enough power to crawl out of anything, definetly not a freeway rig though

Hell yeah. I've slaved on enough 22r's to know it's worth it. My old 22R is still running after about 300,000 miles. It had a head gasket recently, but it was the owners fault it was overheating on the highway and he couldn't pull over so he had to drive it while it was red hot. I love Toyota trucks more than sex.
