is this turbo too big?

Re: is this turbo too big?
If you want a truthful answer; it is way too big for anything but extreme top end. The compressor side is alright I suppose, but the turbine housing is absurdly large for a 4-banger. Especially an anemic 1.6L like your motor. The turbine wheel is massive; made for a large diesel engine. The turbine housing is gigantic too. It looks like it's ~1.00 a/r. That's just huge. It will boost no doubt, but it's not going to reach full boost until way up in the rev range, and depending on where your shift point is; you won't be able to utilize the power unless you're revving out to astronomical numbers.
The bottom line is you're only going to get a certain amount of power out of it and it's not worth the massive lag you'll get from that thing. Why make ~250whp only at 6k+rpm? You can get a better sized turbo and make ~250whp from 3krpm to redline. Your car will lose reliability and while it'll have time to get traction; it is still overkill. He with the largest turbo doesn't win unfortunately. Lots of small cocked idiots on this site will tell you to bolt the largest turbo you can find on your car, but the truth is that it's a delicate balance and you'll get much more out of your car if you select a better sized turbo.
I would run the RHB5 honestly. They feel great dialed in properly on a 1.6L; like they were boosted from the factory. If the RHB5 isn't enough, you can upgrade it. I've upgraded a couple RHB5's from the small stock compressor wheel to a larger 44mm unit and it made a giant difference in top end. A local guy clicked off a 12.9 in a 1.6L EF with an upgraded RHB5 of mine that only cost $180 to upgrade to the larger compressor. You can also just sell the dieseled out Schwitzer and the RHB5 and go with a T3 or even a T3/T4. They have those 57 trim .70 a/r TO4E's off the Internationals on Ebay (genuine Garrett, almost identical to PTE SC34) for under $150 all the time. That would knock your socks off and while still a bit laggy would give you that lag for traction but still spool very nice.

Re: is this turbo too big?
---- that manifold is all I can say. I put one on my car, and rewelded it three times in the same spots plus a few new spots, because I didnt want to have to redo my charge pipe and down pipe again. Just go buy a cheap *** ebay cast manifold, thats what I replaced mine with. Youll be happy you did. Redoing ---- 1 month down the road sucks. And pulling the manifold off 2 or 3 times in 1 month to reweld suck even worse, because you know its a waste of time.
Oh, and I forgot, the wastegate... it fell completely off. The only thing that kept it in my engine bay and not on the road was the vacuum line. The wastegate flange and tube all broke from the collector on the manifold. wish I had a picture. I rewelded it, and heat wrapped it hoping to get more life out of it... not even a week. All four runners cracked again.

sell the turbo, the mani, and the wg!
Buy a splog from randy, use the rhb5, with the internal wg. And have fun. I loved my rhb5 on my a6. It was a tire eating sonofabitch. I think I had more fun with that turbo than any other turbo I ran on the street.

the mani will ---- itself before the car even starts with that much weight hanging on it.
