No they are not absolutely needed.. but they are cool . I have a greddy profec b. Its about 100 bucks. What it does is simple.. it just keeps your car running for a preset time after you take the keys out of the igntion. You just need the oil to circulate and cool things off. Do you absolutely need this? no.. but if u dont mind sitting in your car while it idles for a couple minutes that u dont need one. It has a voltmeter as well... and it plays music!.. lol.. that interested me. Its a cool lil gadget though.

I HATED waiting for my buddy Mike while he had to "wait until he spooled down" whenever we would go somewhere.
I know once you power off the engine, the oil and coolant stop flowing though the motor. When I think about "lag" and the fact that when you shift gears and such the turbo spins down pretty aggressively, does it really take all *that* much time to spool down after the engine is turned off?
