Turbo Timer the HMT Way...
How long should you wait and let the car idle before you can shut it off? I was (for short get outs) get a spare key made to leave the car run and lock it up then take the spare with me to get in and out of my car. I was just curious on everyone's opinion on how long to sit in the car for. Thanks again fellas!

MMM, Were do you live, I feel like a new car with Key and All!!!!
1min-3min depending on temp, but I always work with 1min
BTW: Ihave a turbo timer, It was next to free, I can hardly be out of the parking lot and into the school before my car shuts down, No need to lock your doors and walk away, you won't make it far!

if you don't drive hard right before shutting it off, there's really no need to wait. for example, your going somewhere in town and you got on it a few times, but then cruised the speed limit for the last minute or so, then you're fine. the only time i time mine is like at the track and ----, and i have a brand new turbo if that tells you how worried i am about ------- it up.

As I come into the parking lot, I bring the revs to below 1500 and by the time I park its about 2 mins and then I just shut it off. Other company manuals I have seen say idle for a minute when starting and switching off.

Re: Turbo Timer the HMT Way...
I just drive in vacuum for a mile or so before I get home and let it sit for like 20 seconds.
Most of the time I don't even really let it cool off much, I just let it idle for a few, like 10 seconds and shut it down.
My turbo is watercooled though. I drove it without barely ever cooling it off for 8 months and when I took the turbo off to rebuild it there was no signs of coking, so I'm not really convinced that I need to sit in my car for 1 minute before getting out. Maybe if my turbo wasn't water cooled I would be more concerned.
