turbo positioning

i have a T25 out of a silvia (jdm...duh) the part that i hook up the charge piping to and the part that i bolt up to the exaust manifold are facing the same way.

i saw in one How-to that i need to loosen the bolts and turn it. but i havnt seen that anywhere else plus then the wastegate actuator probably woulnt work. anyone know what to do?

heres a bad picture of what im talking about. the thing circled with the #4 is the wastgate thing that is bolted on to the turbo.

any help is appreciated, thanks.

Re:turbo positioning

so you are wanting to clock the turbo?

Re:turbo positioning

you're gonna have to make a custom bracket for your wastegate in order to mount it in the compressor housings' new position. i had to do the same thing. a welder friend of mine made the bracket, took him 5 minutes.

ah, ok. called clocking i get it.

do you have a picture of the bracket? im sure my welding freind could do the same thing for me. :)

take the actuator off, spin the compressor housing, then see if the bracket lines up with any of the holes. if not, re-drill it or modify the bracket. Its will explain itself once you spin the turbo and see where the actuator needs to be. ;)

Re:turbo positioning

i cant seem to get any bolts loose, im gonna have to soak everything in WD-40. but ill see what you mean after that

Re:turbo positioning

The compressor housing should be held on with a large snap ring, not any bolts, and if you need to rotate it, you will need to relocate the wastegate and how it mounts on the compressor housing. Most t25's you can just drill and tap new holes in the housing.

Re:turbo positioning

Do you have any more pics of the turbo, it maybe a normal style turbo that unbolts from the exhaust housing and compressor housing. But if I recall the T25 unbolts from the exhaust housing and has a snap ring on the compressor housing similar to the TD05 14b.

See the snap ring by the compressor housing

Re:turbo positioning

ok i see the snap ring, the bolts i was trying to undo where the ones on the exaust side. do i have to loosen it or something? i have everything for the wastegate undone but nothing will budge. im assuming i need to push the two ends of that thing away from each other but ill wait for a reply since i dont want to break anything. oh, and i have no good pictures right now but thanks for all the help

little help please?

Re:turbo positioning

Are you trying to completely take it apart then? obviously when you start taking the bolts loose on the exhaust housing they run into the center section and they wont go any further, (loosen all the bolts to this point. Then smack with a rubber mallet the backside of the compressor housing to brake the center section seal loose. Sometimes it takes some serious wacking ;) hah, I usually do this in a vise because it can be a bitch. Once the housing is broke free you should be able to slowly get the bolts free. Once you get all the bolts off, its time to get the compressor housing off. To take the compressor housing off, you need to use large snap ring plyers to get that big ass snap ring out of the housing, otherwise its going nowhere. I would recommend using Tons of WD40 or lubricant when doing any of this. Lube is your friend. :)

Re:turbo positioning

im not looking to take it apart unless i dont have to, i just need to know how to clock it. you said something about the snap ring, but i dunno. the fucker wont budge a bit.

Re:turbo positioning

Well thats how it comes apart, I cannot he-man that snap ring off for you over the computer. Just keep working on it and it will come off.

Re:turbo positioning

wait no, lol. how do i go about taking the snap ring off? do i have to take off the bolts to do it?

HMT-Admin 08-18-2004 07:02 PM

Re:turbo positioning

There shouldnt be any bolts on the compressor side, unless they bolt to the backing plate of the center section, and No. you dont take those off. It should be 1 big snap ring and that whole compressor housing will come loose.

Take some pics man

Re:turbo positioning

Big snap ring plyers, lots of WD40 soaking everywhere around the ring. I also like to use a screw driver and a hammer and sometimes punch the ring a few times, this will break the seal a bit.
