Default turbo my stock CRX HF - stupid or a good project?

So my dad is letting me have his CRX HF. I was originally going to put a jdm d15 or a z6 in it, but I've been reading these forums a lot lately and now I'm itching to turbo it. I want to do it on the CHEEEAP (like 750), and was thinking about turboing the stock HF motor (d15b7). Once I get a working turbo setup, swap in a zc or si tranny/good clutch and have some fun. I'm not looking to post monster numbers, but I'm ready to put a hmt setup together and learn a little.

Before I turbo this car, I'm going to do compression/leakdown test to see if the engine is healthy enough for FI. If the numbers are too shitty, I can swap in a good motor instead of boosting.

Since I'm going uber low budget, I'm going to go to ebay for pretty much everything but the turbo/adapter plate for hf manifold.

Sound like a good/cheap/fun project, or a waste of time?

Boost it, find a D16A6 and swap it in when your ---- blows.

glad you two agree with me. I was also thinking that a short-geared tranny would make more of a difference than going from the d15b7 to the a6 would. As long as i don't get horrible comp/leakdown numbers, turbo it is!

thanks for the support! I guess I should also get drag radials to handle the massive power.

You dont need drag radials

Your clutch is probably going to be ther first thing to go, Id budget that in, throw a stage 2 in there from gripforce on ebay and youre set for $140

Boost it forsure, but dont expect much

My mom has a 90 model, and I want that car so bad it's not funny...It's really clean, I think it has like 170k miles...She makes good money and I'm always trying to talk her into gettin' a hot new ride, but she loves her rex. Hell, as good as it runs and with gas prices being what they are, I can't really blame her...I would definitely swap the car to multi-point injection, but other than that, hell you don't even have to fab up or buy a manifold...

I was joking about the drag radials, I'm expecting very little. I just want to turbo something, and this is what I got. If i put in a new clutch, the HF tranny is gone though. The gears in that tranny are long as hell.
