I have a go-kart and i am getting a riding lawnmower engine and transmission for it next weekend. I want it to be a drift machine ( cheaper then wrecking my car ).

Do you all think it would be possible to turbo the motor? Its a 13 hp craftsman. I can make a box for the carburator and can hook up an electric pump for oil to the turbo. and have a junkyard turbo out of an saub 9000 and an intercooler from a audi.
I can weld so fabricating shouldn't be bad.

I don't know if the 13 hp can spool the saub turbo and and don't know if the engine can handle like 5 to or 6 lbs of boost which is what I want .


If anyone has any hints or ideas I'm open to them.
I want to get the 6 speed transmission with reverse hooked up. I can't wait to get my drift on .

 

I'm going to guess that it won't start because it can't spool the turbo.

saab turbos are t3s find that powers a big 4 cyl find a smaller turbo on e bay

 

get a motorcycle engine and make a bad *** turbo shifter kart.

 

Best/cheapest shot is either a Stealth/3000gt TT turbo ( td04-9B ) or try and find a turbo off one of those old *** 3cylinder cars from way back in the day.

I saw a scooter ( like skate board with a T handle ) that had a little motor on the back and it was turbo charged, has little pipes that went to the front of it where it had a little IC that looked like an A/C vent... It was bad *** !!

 

OMFG GUYS this is 13 horsepower the exhaust gases aren't even going to produce 1 psi. Jesus christ its less pressure pushing that turbine then a honda d15b7 would push at idle. Do 3000GT turbos spool at idle? ---- NO

I have one of those crappy little go-karts,(the walmart style with just a seat and a steering wheel.) And we did about two months straight of welding and ---- to turn it from a two seater 3.5hp to a one seater 125cc dirt bike motored *** hauler... It now has one seat,a 4pt. harness, a full roll cage, a two stroke 125 from a honda CR125, 13in slicks in the back, no muffler, no clutch and is a 6spd. Scary As ---- is the best way to describe that ride. Moral to the story being twofold. 1. anything is possible to fabricate, so keep thinkin on that turbo lawnmower. 2. Sometimes you CAN have too much power and not enough weight.

 

your best bet is to find a turbo from a fork lift. They're really really small and would work good and sometimes they're on ebay...thats what I'm doing to my Yamaha Banshee. Also 5-6 pounds on that small of a motor is death. a GSXR1300 makes 350whp with only 3 psi. So look to do no more than 3 pounds
