Turbo d16 Overheating, Need some help
 

I just finished my set-up on my civic wagon. Unfortunately, the engine is supposedly over heating.

I am using an autometer temperature sensor because my OEM sensor stopped working after the swap. The gauge will slowly creep to <250F however the coolant is not boiling. I can take the radiator cap off with very little pressure.


The top radiator hose is hot and the bottom radiator hose is very warm; too warm to hold onto for more than five
seconds. I am using a dual core aluminum radiator. I am currently using a thermostat. I am running 50/50 pre-diluted antifreeze.

Could this be a warped head? Could this be just a lack of air fplw through the radiator being that the intercooler/ bumper is now blocking it. Could running the radiator fan constantly solve this problem? Please give me some feedback. I am a bit lost.

do you know how to purge the air from the cooling system? im not trying to be an ass, but that can cause lots of headaches

I believe that the purge is on the front housing connected to the top radiator hose. I have not bled that but I Have run the car without the radiator cap on. I am pretty positive that there are no air pockets in the lines. I am not noticing any fluctuation in the gauge and the heater is consistently blowing hot.

are there any kinks or section of colapsed hose in the lower hose? that will do it too

No. I am actually running slighly larger diameter hose because of the larger radiator oulets. All hoses are straight and unkinked. The system seems to flow well.

What would be the symptoms of a warped head?

is you fan kicking on ?




you have to bleed the coolant system, you cant assume it ok ya know

if you have a warped head you would be losing coolant either burning it or going into the oil and if you are burning it most of the time your car will idle funny

Is that an ebay radiator? Because I had endless problems with the ebay radiator I used. Maybe a weird design or something, but it would build up pressure in the system until you were blowing off rad hoses, even after swapping the chinaking rad cap for an oem style one.

I don't remember if the fan was kicking on or not. I will try to bleed the coolant through the bleeder and hopefully that will help.

Car Idles very nicely. Oil is very clean. Coolant still glow green.

I am using an ebay radiator. I figured that no-one could screw up a radiator. There is no build-up of pressure in the system (i dont think). I am not using an oem radiator cap.

IAny more advice is welcome. Thanks so far; very helpfull tips that I will try this weekend.

that sounds like a winner to me. those slant-eyes may win the welding competitions almost every year, but they can't mass produce for ----.
