my car does the same thing.i can start it up and get on it going around the block and it starts heating up.must be my h/g too. i just bought this h/g off ebay and installed after my valves and ---- was put in. :'(

oh...do not use cheap walmart supertech oil. i thought my hg was blown, did a compression check and it's fine. 90-first comp stroke 210 7th comp stroke across all 4 cyl. b16. last night i added restore oil additive and it doesn't overheat anymore, it must've made the oil more heat resistant. mine would heat up after 7 or 8 hard runs and then cool down if i laid off the boost. after adding the restore, no more heat ups, i sound like a comercial. seriously though, i had synthetic oil before 2 weeks ago and no problems. tommorow i'm putting in some synthetic mobil1 :P

w3rd! do a compression test. mine overheated after a few hard runs and then would come back to normal if i drove normal (slow not too much boost) i added some oil additive-restore- and it stopped. i had used cheap .88 motor oil on my last oil change and that was the cause. comp was awsome on all 4 cyl. i was thinking it was the hg/rings-synthetic oil own3z me

It's probably not a bad idea on a boosted engine at some point in time, but me and another guy in town were both having heat problems a few months ago (he's supercharged, I'm turbocharged). I was going bit by bit and he just up and replaced his HG and he's trying to convince me to do the same.

After he does his, he calls me up all frantic, saying it didn't work and he thinks he warped his head and when I replace mine, I should definitely have my head milled. He knows a guy who will do it for me (when I do mine) for cheap.

End of story, I have no idea what his problem ended up being, but mine was probably a mix of air pockets and a bad water pump. I have new head studs waiting to go in, but I'll do it when I'm good and ready... ;)

yea my gsr is boosted and mines jus recently started to over heat....i just thought is was my thermostat since it fluctuates right??...hhmm my frends thinks it is to since it happend to his car n he sed it was the thermostat...im fixin that first how will i kno if its the headgasket?? i jus bought a new radiator but its oem replacement all metal..and my revoir is like at normal level at all times....

You can tell it's your thermostat if one of your inlet/outlet hoses isn't getting hot... Meaning, the car's getting hot, your coolant is getting hot, but the thermostat isn't opening to recirculate the "cooler" coolant from the radiator (or vice-versa) and that's making your engine hotter. Mine would get hot and then cool off (a little) when I drive. Fucked up. :-\

Other cheap fixes (and not bad ideas) would be to flush your system (or have it flushed) and get a new radiator cap. From there, you can bleed the system and make sure you get all the air out.

If all that don't work, you're looking at a water pump or new headgasket. I guess a compression test or seeing oil in your coolant (or coolant in your oil?) would tell you if the headgasket is bad.

That's about as far as I've ever had to go, but I guess a bad or damaged block isn't totally out of the question. A fucked up or leaking radiator too.

i wired my fan up to a switch, just hacking into the harness. i set it up so both my a/c condensor fan and the radiator fan come on at the same time, both hooked into the radiator fan switch. then ran that to an external switch, so i can switch my fans on whenever i want to, but it still comes on automatically when the coolant temps get high. its really useful for when ur at the strip and want to cool down between runs. i also usually switch it on in stop and go traffic. i'd rather wear out a fan faster and get a replacement from a junkyard than shorten my engine's life. A little $20 fan is a lot easier on the wallet than a $500+ rebuild.

Im not boosted yet but I had overheating problems. One day driving through town the temp gauge shot straight up so I tried to get home ASAP. But of course, while steam is rolling off the front of my car, there has to be the most traffic. So Im sitting waiting to pull out, and notice everyone starting at me (or my car) but I dont care and just want to get home. When I finally get there, I get out, walk to the front, see the steam rolling from the hood and bumper, and then see a stream of coolant spraying straight out in front of the car. So thats what everyone was looking at :o

I have since ordered and installed a dual core, and I havent overheated since. :)
