which turbo for b16a crx?
ok, im a BOOST n00b...wanting to go turbo with my daily driven crx. Ive got a b16a with S1 tranny (4.4 final drive close ratio). I want a turbo that will spool up pretty quick but not keep me burning tons of fuel on the highway...I also dont want it to run out of breath before my 8000rpm redline. I plan on running around 5-8psi. I just learned the ins-outs of turbos today so any info would be appriciated. thanks

if you have bones to go t3/t4 get the t3/tO4e .57 trim (not sure of the A/R's)--I'm thinking about upgrading mine but want to run my turbo at higher psi before deciding to upgrade.
But if u want to go cheap, get the T3's either the T3 .48/.60 or the T3 .63/.60.
You can also use the T25 or T28 Ball bearing turbos too if you like (NOT FROM THE DSM's!)

Re:which turbo for b16a crx?
I have exactly the same motor setup in my hatchie, spools about 3500 or so, my setup is listed below...the gas on the highway is up to you, if you stay in vacuum (out of boost) while cruzing, you shouldn't see a big affect on it...

Thanks for the info--
what exactly does this mean? Ok, example: my [hypothetical] turbo is at full spool @ 4000 rpm. If I cruise on the highway @ 4500 rpm, does this mean i will be at full boost at every second that i stay crusing above 4000rpm? Or do you mean that as long as i dont 'cruise' at WOT while on the highway (at 4000+rpm) that i will then be "in vacuum" and not in boost?
Basically, is this true?: at WOT you spool quicker and reach full boost sooner... but on the highway cruising at mid throttle you wont reach full boost at the same rpm as WOT?
Anyone know the specs on the 14b?
I want to setup a turbo which will be at full boost at 4000rpm and still make power at 8200rpm. Accomplishing full boost at 4000rpm should lend enough lag to me that i can probably establish some traction before-hand. (With my jdm S1 tranny only 1st gear will have lag. In all other gears rpm only falls to 5000+)
What do you think? What disadvantage would there be to this setup?

Re:which turbo for b16a crx?
i have a t3 .48/.60 on my b16. at 6-7 psi it dosent do to bad. just make shure u have a free flowing exhaust :P. u can actually go all the way to the revlimiter and not hit boost. u will have to go up real slow but it can happen. it takes exhaust gases to spool the turbo. so u can be crusing on the interstate out of boost. down shift, punch it and ur gone.

I would go drive something but none of my friends have boost. And no i havent ever driven a boosted car and i dont automatically know how a turbo works :P Im not dumb, just a n00b...
