turbo automatic

with the risk of being flamed for driving an automatic (not my choice, hand-me-down), can a d-series automatic transmission handle power loads created by 7-9psi of boost pressure?

thanks,
chris

Re:turbo automatic

u would need to manually shift it or else the turbo would prolly never spool :)

Swap it over to manual.. $400, and you're all set. :)

Tranny, shift linkage, shifter, ECU.. few other knick nacks.

But ya, unless you're WOT it's probably not going to spool.

i don' tknow much about honda automatic tranmissions, but if i was building a import dragster i'd definatly want to have an automatic... i'm sure someone could build one up, and make a shift kit for it. something just to put more pressure on the fluid before it shifts... it'd be cool as heck to have a hard shifting automatic crx.

thanks guys, the fact that automatics shift much sooner than redline will not allow for the turbo to spool...hence is why i bought a quick spooling, not-so-high-psi, turbo. However, having learned how to drive on a standard car, I craved the manual shifting and thus have rigged my automatic transimission so that I can do a sort of, "ghetto tiptronic" in which i can shift manually and all the way to the redline.

But what i really wanted to know is if the tranny will give up under such an increase in power. I have heard no, from most people...but there are a few who are skeptical.

thanks again for the info!

Re:turbo automatic

that is the way you're supposed to shift automatics when you race, you hold the gears until redline and shift manually... on my chevelle i have a turbo hydrolic 400 (3 gears) and you can hold everygear... and its really cool to chip or lose traction completely when shifting into 2nd and 3rd...

that is really wierd that hondas will shift before redline, with it floored... thats fucked up lol

You could prob. built boost off the line !! and autos don't loose boost everytime it shifts, another reason turbo regals are WAY faster than they look..

My spare 86 accord can redline... lol. Like 1000 over I think.

It's not a matter of that, it's just a matter of WOT for each gear. If you step on the gas, it will just downshift. Not a fun street car. Would seem smart for race only though.

do this.

rev it up to redline in neutral and slam it into first.
