Default turbo 4 cylinder jeep

Hey guys, awsome site you have here, I'm trying to put together a turbo kit for my brothers jeep, I've turbo'ed a few cars before so I have everything pretty much figured out except for the turbo sizing for the 2.5L motor. I tried plugging in my numbers to the calculator on the sticky but just ended up a little confused. He uses the truck for off roading sometimes so a turbo that spools pretty low would be good(T3?) and this thing never sees over 5k on the tach. I think we are going to start at 5 psi and work up to ten when we get better fuel managment. I have had water injection on all my turbo cars and have had very good luck with it so we will be using that too. I was wondering if someone on here has boosted one of these motors and has any input. thanks in advance.

i would estimate a t3 spool up around 3.5-4.0k rpms... my 3.0 spools a t3/t4 around 3k rpms.

if i was you i would go smaller, but this would be good if you are looking to save gas in town when you arent in boost and when you tow/race.? lol it would be fine, but the problem with a smaller turbo is it would more heat produced at the same amount of boost than a bigger one, just depends on what you want

yeah definitely want to hit 5 pounds in the 2-2.5k range in this truck, its a 97 wrangler by the way. From what I have read a turbo actually increases the overall gas mileage in these trucks, I assume because they are dogs and you pretty much run these thing wide open all the time to get where you are going especially on the highway, I guess due to the higher dynamic compression ratio when under boost gives you an increase in efficiency. He doesnt tow anything but it has body and suspension lift and bigger tires. My last last HMT style turbo was a 14b I bolted onto a 2.4 galant and It was a bit too small but had awesome response. I assume something a little larger than that 14b would be perfect, internally gated would simplify installation but I am going to need to point the hot side inlet down though. There is tons of room in between the radiator and front of the engine so I think that is where it will sit. For 3k I could get this kit here 505 Performance Jeep 2.5L 4 Cylinder Turbo System - Jp Magazine
I wonder what turbo they are using

so a little more research later and I am leaning to a T28 .48, does the compressor housing rotate easily on this turbo?

i would look into a MHI 16g to be honest. it can flow more then you need hile still being very small and will spool awesome on a 2.5.

yeah i read a few t28 vs 16g threads and it appears you are correct. I have been out of the turbo scene for a while so I cant really remember but the standard dsm flanges work on that turbo right? Also do you guys have a perfered source for mandrel exhaust bends?
