turbine outlet/wastegate...Z6 + thunderbird T3

im fabbing up a turbo kit for a friend using a d16z6 in an EF hatch. STD manifold, BMC adapter plate, and .60/.48 T3 from a thunderbird. The problem im having and i know its common as i've seen it before, but anyways, the stock turbine outlet/o2 housing/wastegate flapper points directly at the block. I believe there is a stock outlet from another T3 that bolts on and routes the downpipe downward.. can anybody tell me what it is and where to get it?

I had originally planned to run an external wastegate, but since im using the STD manifold and dont want to weld to cast to create wastegate dump, i want to use the stock flapper wastegate.

what turbine outlet do i use?

the saab one fits.
i had one that julio is using on his tbird turbo.
you could use an external wastegate, connecting it where the flapper hole is. you would need a plate with the hole.

If it is a true T-bird Turbo, then it is a IHI with a T3 flange. I think the only 60 trim T3 from a 2.3 ford was the SVO.

well he stated .60/.48 T3 from a thunderbird. so it's a T3 and not an IHI. he didn't say 2.3L or 60 trim. the one turbo he mentioned is from the automatic t-bird. i pulled one a few weeks ago.

I must of been mis-informed, but I was under the impresstion that the Ford T-bird only used the IHI Turbo, and the only motor used in the turbo T-bird was a 2.3. The only 2.3 that used a true T3 was the 2.3 Murker or 2.3 Mustang SVO.

you're right, the tbird did use an ihi, but it switched to it in the later years. the first couple years used the T3.

all 2.3L fords except a few select years of tbird used the 60 trim t3... just depends on what year tbird... soem had the IHI some had the 60 trim... easiest way to tell is looking at the turbine housing...

good luck finding a Saab T3 swingvalve assy. You need to do this HMT stylez, cut off the exhaust housing about 2 inches and just weld the downpipe right onto the cast housing,

like so

Be sure you have some type of flex section in the exhaust system somewhere, and use alot of heat when you weld mild steel to cast, and it will be fine.

I actually had a Saab T3 laying around, so i just robbed the part off it :D. Remember i made the thread about how the "chrysler T3" had a bigger compressor wheel than the "saab t3"..... well i used my .60/.48 T-Bird T3 and parts off the Saab. Im going to use the saab adjustable wastegate actuator too, but im going to cut the arm and extend it by about 2 inches so i can mount the actuator in the holes for the power steering pump since it wont fit correctly between the compressor housing and the block where it was mounted stock. I love fabrication.
