tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
The day has finally come, i have a street tune, but im getting a dyno tune tomorrow at 10psi on my d16y7. How much power do you guys think ill put out? Im running a turbo thats a little larger than a 14b. it's the ihi apexi bb turbo on DSM 450's and tuning with crome. No bs answers like 500whp @ 50psi or anything. no boobies because im at school.

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
195-210
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
yeah, i would predict no more than 220 probably at 10 lbs, but probably around the 200 mark
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
and thats if the y7 doesn't have the same shitty timing as the y8 lol. if you aren't gonna tune the timing and try and run stock p28 timing then i am guessing around 170

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
do y8's really have that bad of a timing issue?

i will never own another one even though with everything that JD found out you could get a decent tun out of them now. just feel safer with the z6. |

This will make a decent basemap to tune from, and the engine will likely want more timing in the lower and midrange RPMs, but don't ---- with it until you get it on a dyno. |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
184hp

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
thank you guys for the answers. i am running a stock fuel pump unfortunately. I will upgrade the fuel pump VERY soon. Should i pick up an adjustable cam? my friend will sell me his grage (jason whitfield) sohc cam BNIB for 50 bucks.

waste of money on a stock cam |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
162 Hp.
;D |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
I made 186hp and 174tq with a stock Y7 with a t25@10 psi
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
I predict 10 lbs will turn you out.
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
200 or more. Easy.
My stock y7 head at 10-11 psi made 202 with a d15 bottom. |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
well?

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
I guess he doesnt realy have a setup, only on the internet
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
sorry for the delay guys, i couldnt do the dyno tune, because the shop rented out the dyno that day. I did a street tune instead, ill reply back to this thread when i get a dyno run on sunday.

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
I predict your tune will suck and the ringlands will die. But until that point, ten pounds, will turn you out.
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
managed 2 figure out the crazy timing on my y7 and made 218 on a leaky gate that bounced between 12 and 14 :6
so you get 180-190ish |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
sorry guys, i only did a street tune, and my boost gauge wouldnt hold 10psi very well, so we left it at the stock wastegate and that is around 5-6psi.
one question, the tee that came with my MBC has like a restricter or something (no a check valve) on one of the T sides. Are they suppose to be like this? |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
Is it a bleed type boost controller or does it use a regulator and connect to the wastegate top port? If it's a bleed type it needs to have a restrictor first in-line then to a T. One side of the T goes to the wastegate side port, the other side of the T goes to an adjustable needle or ball valve. This is how i've done it before anyway. Without the first restrictor you won't get your boost as high because the turbo pushes enough air to still open your wastegate even with the bleed open (to an extent). It doesn't need a check valve. If it uses the top port it's different. What type are you using?

thats the one im running. So the restrictor side would go to the rubber tubing off the compressor, and the side that air moves through freely would go to the actuator. According to the picture, the red fitting would then go to the ftting on the boost controller that is pointing DOWN. So where does the other fitting on the boost controller go? |

Since I don't have it in front of me to check this is just a guess. Also, I don't know if it's just a needle valve or a regulator type from the photo. Looks like it's just a needle valve to me which means it's a bleed type controller. On the "T" I don't know if it matters which fitting goes to what. If it's just an open "T" it doesn't matter. If there is a restrictor on one of them that one would go to the compressor. From the pic I guessed and that's the one I labeled "To compressor". If it's a bleed type and you connect the controller outlet to the wastegate top port you will not have control over your boost and it will most likely keep rising the longer you stay in boost until you blow something up. Didn't the thing come with any instructions or details?

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
It's an internal gate, there is no side wastegate port.
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
Ah, so he's got to do a bleed system, correct? I've never used an internal gate, I like using external so you have more options and control.
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
Yeah I have the same boost controller as this guy and I haven't gotten it to work right on my 14b internal gate. When I hook it up according to the instructions it makes the wastegate never open.
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
if its an internal wastegate you wouldn't need the T would you? just install the boost controller between the wastgate and vacuum source.
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
I tired that too, but it didn't work either. For the T I have the vacuum hose off the mani going to the non-arrow side of the T, then on the arrow side I have that going to the WG nipple. The red nipple that says "to wastegate side port" in the pic above I have hooked to the boost controller. I tried several different arrangements, they all resulted in humongous boostage.
http://www.turbosmart.com.au/index.p...download&id=18 Like that but instead of coming off a nipple on the turbo to read boost it has the intake manifold plumbed in. I'll try it the way you suggest, with just the BC inline with the intake and wastegate. |
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
Is it necessary to use the boost controller. I got one for my d16y7 setup with a t3 but i dunno if its necessary to use?
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
It's necessary if you want to turn the boost up...
|
Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
180whp goal with t3 turbo on stock d16y7. Im tunning with safc2 and vortech supercharger btm

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
I have no clue, but I'd need one too. I don't think Donald's mbc will work with my internal gate. I'll just wait until I upgrade to an external.

Re: tuning tomorrow. stock y7. 10psi! predict please.
it will make about 160-170 if hes lucky..
my y7 made 212 whp @ 11psi on a 57trim 332whp @ 22psi 57trim and on my 14b i made 198 @ 15psi on stock Y7 |
