Default TT sbc jet boat vid.

my buddy bought this jet boat for 500 bucks with a junk 283 sbc in it. we swapped in a stock 350, used shorty headers, 2 saab T3 turbos, a edlebrock 650cfm carb , a dogbowl welded to a air cleaner base for a carb hat, a 1g dsm bov. its running 5psi of boost, and making ?hp.
were still working bugs out, but overall it works most of the time.

Any picts on how you setup the carb for boost.

We did not do much to the carb to set it up for boost, maybe we are lucky? It is working good at 5psi but we do need to play with the step up springs/metering rods to take care of a little spot we have in the Boost/Secondary transaction.

Basically we put new gaskets in the carb as it was old. We installed the biggest Jets and smallest metering rods. We then hooked up the wideband and just drove it around until we got the AFR's we liked. Edelbrock did not make jets the size we needed so we just used small drill bits to drill the jets until we got the flow we needed. We did install .110 needle and seats to make sure we did have enough flow. This setup is working fine at 5psi, If you went anymore you would need to at a minimum upgrade the floats to something that will not collapse.
Remember if you do this you need to raise fuel pressure 1 psi for every 1 psi of boost as you will push the fuel out of the bowl. We did this by installing barbed fittings on the atmospheric port on the fuel pump and running that to a Boost source.

Like Mikey said we still have a few bugs to work out like the cracks on the floor lol, We need to do a different throttle cable setup as it keeps slipping out of the holder and the cable is junk anyway, We kept blowing exhaust gaskets out but that was due to the fact we couldn't get the bolts tight enough, We have that solved now.

It's fun

So I tap into the port where the fuel pump spits fuel when the diaphram wears out right?
With boost pressure signal going to the fuel pump I would not need a 1:1 FMU right?

See this small hole in the fuel pump:

put a barbed fitting into that on both sides and run a pressure line to it. This will give you 1:1 so you will not need a FMU. If you are running high boost I would recommend going with a different setup but this should work good on lower boost setups.

cool one problem solved for me I plan on twin turbo my 5.0 in my '82 mustang gt.
Already have a ederlbrock #1406 I do not understand why you would have to replace the floats I have metal floats in mine.
Would the stock fuel pump even handle supply for 500bhp+?

They say to replace the floats because they are hollow metal, it is very weak - you can crush them with min. effort with your fingers. The floats are dirt cheap but if they crush you are taking a chance of Hydro locking your engine. Stock floats should be fine under 10psi with a good Blow off valve. I don't know what a stock fuel pump can handle - I know a lot of people that make some good power on them, but when your up in the 500hp range I would look around at different setups to be safe, that's just me though. Try it and see what happens?

the metal floats have been known to crush under higher boost (5psi seems safe) the reccomended floats are made out of a foam plastic material, and they are solid instead of hollow. there are no direct replacements for the 1406 carb that i have seen, but people have been able to retro fit floats from other carbs into the 1406 with good results. Kyle may have the link to the float info still.....
i wouldnt trust the stock FP for that much power, i would go to an electric unit to be safe.
