Trying to peice kit together, looking for some advice and a little guidance
This is my guesstimate for everything/most everything
used turbo with little or no shaft play prob a 14b (dsm), maybe t-25?? or t3?? $150ish dsm 450's $60 johnnyracer intercooler $155 Oil lines ebay $70 ic piping $100 bov (dsm, other used, or cheap ebay) $50 hf manifold $100 p28 chipped $175 obd2-1 conversion harness $75 Downpipe custom..... for 97 civic ex (d16y8) $125 I really have no idea on this one, any guesses guys? manual boost controller $25 boost gauge + a/f guage $100 Dyno tuned (by tuner, not me) with uber on chipped ecu $200-300 (if ecu already has a basemap?) tuned to about 10 psi or 200 whp random fittings and misc. $50 about $1535 I forget something major? All this sound resonable for prices and for about 10 psi and/or 200whp? any input would be great. thanks guys, I look forward to this being a possibility and at least learning as much as I can along the way thanks, RKSskier |

theres nothing really special about them at all. the only time I'd ever suggest them is if you just blew up all your factory pistons and dont have much money (cant afford forged) to go with them. They are just like factory stock cast pistons.
If you want to build your engine, you may want to look into getting some forged pistons. SRP's are about the cheapest on the market for standard bore slugs. |

its not that I think they are better quality than oem, or even as good for that matter. The thing that interests me is the low compression part of it. I just would like to boost as much as I can for the least amount of money..... and if these would allow me to bump up the psi over stock and get a little more hp, then it could be worth it.

those would be ok, except they are for a block that is bored .02 over, and if I am not mistaken dont you need to notch to use ls rods in a d16? So they may be better, but prob not cheaper. |

You have to notch the block in a D16 to run anything other than stock factory rods.

I ran crowers and I had to notch my zc block (well in order for me to sleep at night anyways) I cant imagne the ls rods required block notching.
As far as these pistons, there is no benifit with them, If you lower the compression your just going to have to turn up the boost to compensate. all stock D-series are at a perfect compression ratio for boost. Reguardless its the rods that will fail before the pistons will break (unless you dont know how to tune) your looking around max 250ish whp on stock d rods. |

I am planning on turboing my d16y8 with 120xxx (runs strong) and would like to do somewhere in the 9 psi to 10.5/11 psi to get around 200 whp. I am contemplating either the afc hack or going obd1 with uberdata. I am on a limited budget (well who isn't) and could easily end up with some dsm parts... 450cc injectors, and maybe a 14b or t25 as well. From what I have gathered it would appear that with either the hack or uber 200 is a resonable goal, but the other idea that has been brewing in the back of my mind is to add some internals and up the boost, something a similar setup but with uberdata and pistons, rods, camshaft, and arp head studs.
So do you guys think that 200 whp is reasonable with the first setup? <----- Hoping for $1500 tuned And if I were to do the cam pistons rods headstuds and use uber, could I have around 250 whp? <------- would most likely come later after the initial setup, and then add parts, and get tuned again, would probally be 6 months after turbo was first put on. So what turbo do you guys reccomend? I would like something that can spool quick enough to still be able to do swift, precise downshift (basically something that would be good for autoxing) and will never need more than 250.... (most likely a turbo that can do 200 whp will be plenty) any advice would be appreciated, I am pretty new to FI thanks Ryan |

200whp can eaisly be done on all stock internals, Here is one of HMT's most "solid" setups

It has ran 12.6 @ 107mph in the 1/4 mile, and makes 230whp/208tq. It's been running for almost 2 years on a stock internaled engine. He drives this thing everyday and beats the crap out of it. The only thing I think I would have done a bit different in that setup would be getting a slightly larger turbo, but thats just my preference. If you want a built engine, do it all at once. Rods/Pistons etc etc. After you get bored with 200-240whp on the stock engine just start saving money. |
