Default Took apart my turbo

in case you didnt know my turbo was spittin major oil out the exhaust side when i finally installed everything. so i planned on buying an oil restrictor to see if that would hellp, and havent gotten it yet, so i took apart the turbo late last night and everything still seems to be cool. the compressor side was completely dry, no oil whatsoever. and the exhaust side had oil, but everything seemed to be ok. im gonna take some pics because i dont know where the seals should be and if they are there or not. or if someone has a pic of the inside of the exhaust side of a T3 that would help too. pics will be up probably later today.

what kind of turbo is this? There is a seal on the turbien side, its pretty much like a piston ring seal, inspect and take pics of that seal on the turbine wheel/shaft.

ok here are a few pics:

^ the backplate: this had no oil whatsoever. so at leats i know the compressor side is fine.

^ i just thought that looked pretty nice after i cleaned it.

^ the exhaust wheel, still spins freely and is in perfect condition

^the exhaust housing:

now that is where my question comes in, are there supposed to be any seals inside the exhaust housing to keep oil from gettin through?

matt.

the typical failure for a smoking turbo is usually either the turbine seal ring(looks like a piston ring located on the turbine shaft behind the blades of the wheel, a bad turbo drain routing or size, or coaked carbon in the bearing housing causing the turbine seal ring to not seal correctly. there are other possibly failures but these are the most common.

yea i bought a restrictor and put that in, and now i just have to finish swappin in my z6 mani to see if the turbo leaks still.

if it does, ill just buy a used 42/48 and swap back on my 52 compressor side.
