Thrust Spacer

When rebuilding a turbo, where does the thrust spacer go? I Can seem to figure it out

fyi...it looks very similar to the nut that attaches the compressor wheel to the shaft, but it's only a six point instead of 12 and it doesnt seem to have the same pitch

???? the thrust bearing and collar are on the face of the bearing housing(opposite side of the turbine wheel) but i've never seen a 6 point one?? you have me lost there.

i think i have myself lost too...i think its just another compressor wheel nut for a different sized shaft
