those who had/have brand new turbos
ive always heard that witha new turbo, some oil gettin into the exhaust is common at first... how long does this usually last for about?

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
anyone?
|
Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
That never happened to me
|
Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
that doesnt sound like it should happen with a new turbo? at first the seals leak a little bit and then stop? doesnt really make sense to me.
|
Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
hmmm... well this is intresting... idk, thats what i awlways heard, and mines doing it... my oil press spiked up to 110 psi for about 2 seconds b4 i shut her down :o , so hopefully i didnt blow out any of the seals. it was burning a little oil before that too though... ill give it a little more time and see if it clears up.

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
I have never had that problem, but I could see it happening. It might leak until the seals wear in maybe? ???

if your rebuilt turbo leaks its time to get that bitch sent back and fixed.

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
im questining my return line now... its 3/8" ID which jsut might be too small...what do you think? also, my supply is 1/4" line with a 1/8" fitting at the ends, so at the very end, it will only be 1/8"...

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
maybe you just have too much oil pressure. when i put in my new motor my turbo smoked, and it was just rebuilt
|
Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
oil pressure is holding about 50psi on a cold idle....

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
feed = way too ------- big
return = way too ------- small thus, oil rising above seals and smoke smoke smoke |

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
yeah, i believe my return is too small. it was 3/8, but i ripped it out lastnight and will be replaceing it with 1/2 as soon as some fittings come in. i would have gone 5/8th, but i chose half because i can get half with a 1/4"NPT which would prevent me from having to retap my oilpan, and im sure 1/2 will be just fine. like every factory car ive ever seen actually uses half. the supply is 1/4" being restricted by means of compression fittings which bring it down to 1/8" at the ends. so im thinkin this sould fix my lil oil burning problem. idk bout the oil pressure though.. cold start idle she sits at about 50 psi of oil.

Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
50psi at idle :o....110 psi before you turned the car of :o ,
That's a lot of oil pressure man....20 psi is enough for a turbo doesn't need anymore than that though. My oil return is kinda small to, but I'm not smoking.... :) |
Re:those who had/have brand new turbos
even 1/2 inch is kind of small imo :-\ and yeah, maybe it's a domestic thing, but tha oil pressure looks kind of high to me as well, get a needle valve to kill that ---- some.
