Thickness of flanges?
 

So I have an unlimited supply of stainless plate threw my school. I am going to do a HMT style turbo set up on my f22 but i want to do it as right as possible. So my question is what thickness should i use for the flang that bolts to the head, the flange that the turbo bolts to, and the flange on the down pipe??? The only problem is I only have 1", 1/2", 3/8", and smaller to choose from. I cut out 2 exaust flanges already using 1/2" but they seem kinda heavy. Would 3/8" be good enough? Or should I stick with 1/2"?

1/2, 3/8 would be a bit thin for a head flange and would warp easier.

1/2 inch is what you need, you can get away with 3/8th sometimes but the slightest warpage and you will be filing down too much material...for non head flanges you can probably get away with thinner materials if you use good gaskets

They tend to warp after a bit.

Good back plate when welding will solve that.

The linear coefficient of expansion between mild steel and SS304 is not that much. Even a 304 head flange heated up to 2000 degrees is only going to expand slightly more than mild.

Thanks for the info. Also what about the pipe diameter? 2" or bigger? 14g thickness or thicker?

14G or thinner will require a good design and good welding, and possibly bracing. Honda people usually get away with sch10 pipe fittings due to price and compactness. Its also easier to to get fairly strong weld with a fat bead on thick material, than with a thin weld on thin material.
