Borg warner GM5 turbo from the General Motors 6.5L V8 diesels used in their pickups etc. in the 90's.

2 of those would barley cut it for the power hes looking to make

To give you an idea of what Im doing. Ive looked a a few turbo's. Off of backhoes, bulldozers, '07 Duramax, ect, too. Some of those I could have gotten free. None that I had access to were big enough. Maybe with twins but I dont want twins really. If any of those are big enough(without modifying them) I would consider twins. Since I can get them free.

Forgive me, I still don't see where you've mentioned how much power you're looking to make. Based on the 750 carb, your looking for about 500hp? Shouldn't need a turbo to get that kind of power from that engine...

900. I assumed you would see the 3 example turbo's, and could tell if there were any close to that size. I make almost 500 now, and about 650 on nitrous.

May I ask why you want to use a carb? Fuel injection is much easier to tune with forced induction...

Also, how high are you planning to rev it and where do you want your peak hp/torque?

GT47 series looks to be a good match. S475 looks like it may start to run out a bit up top...but that depends how high you want to rev it...

Money mainly, and the cars already a carb. I will be doing an EFI swap eventually. Using my carb intake converted over. Ive been told by several people this is probably the best way to go. Since I have no experience with standalone EFI systems. Almost all my cars have been EFI, but in the Mustangs I just ran the stock A9L with no tune, and had a chip burned for the GM stuff. Using the stock ECU. Tuning isnt an issue though.

I have people helping me that really know what theyre doing. They run mostly big block Chevy's with blow thru's. In Outlaw drag radial racing. Ofcourse they want me to spend a couple G's on just the turbo itself. Which they can afford, but I cant. lol The 475 or 480 cuts the price down alot. Im just wanting to see if thats as far as Im going to be able to cut it or not. Like most people, I need to save all I can

Yeah, no, was just curious. These days it's unusual to run a carb with a turbo. I don't know if you heard of it but the company "fast" has an EFI auto tuning system that, essentially, tunes itself. We've used a similar feature with megasquirt with a program called tuner studio and the ease of tuning is much beyond what it was even 2 years ago.

If you're worried about not knowing how to tune the EFI, there are solutions out there.

If you want to run carb and you've got people helping you who have done this before and know what they're doing, then by all means.

Good luck with your build. Let us know what turbo you end up using and tells how it works out. How high are you planning on revving this engine? If you keep it under 6500-7000 the s475-480 should work well. It looks like anything above 7000rpm on the s476 and you're getting below 70% efficiency. What's the exact displacement of this engine?
