i got this td05 from an abandoned import shop. i took it because the turd owes me $1700. anyways i get it back home and it has a crack in the exhaust side. do you guys think I should try and replace it, or just get a new turbo

BTW the before mentioned turd was supposed to be making me a turbo kit, but all i got was a 3bar map sensor, ACT clutch kit, MSD coil and cap,and an autometer triple pillar pod. needless to say i'm not too happy.

i meen you could try and weld up the crack, thats probly the easyest way. or buy a new exhaust housing.

yes i got corn-holed, is it a pain to take off the exhaust side?? i've never really fucked with it except to see if it spun and if there was any shaft play.
BTW how easy should it spin??

don't even worry about it.

last night i bought a new dsm 14b from a local guy who frequents our racetracks. pretty much all 90-94 dsm 14b's (td05) cracked on the exhaust housing. It was because of the type of cast used. Later years they added a high nickel content one that did not crack.

Anyways, point is...The guy has run his dsm into sub 12 second times and even 11 second times with a cracked td05 exhaust housing, don't sweat it.

its cracked where the wastegate flap is at. i don't think it will seal closed. and the crack goes from the wastegate area through the exhaust side.

Mine is cracked to ---- and still works fine! Your WG will seal, not as well but it's not like it's gonna take 300 rpm more to spool with 2-3 hairline cracks on it!

these cracks aren't hair-line, the 2 around the wastegate are fucked up. they are prolly about 3/8 apart, but the area between them dropped, so when the flap is shut you can still see through that area. i'm pretty sure i need a new exhaust side. anybody got one to sell

OUCH!! Ya, you need a new one. There is a guy on ebay every once in a while that has cast steel (not iron) ones that are and upgrade for about 100.00 or so. They have a larger wastegate port and fit directly on.

yeah, i've got a race-ported exhaust side and i ran lean one time and the heat cracked the housing right next to the flapper, it was huge, actually split the cast and spit a piece of it out the exhaust. wouldn't build much boost or anything, it all just leaked by the flapper. but on my new one, there's a small crack by the flapper, doesnt do anything. so basically its all just dependent on the size of the crack and severity. i wouldn't worry about it unless the flapper doesnt seal against it.
