Talk to me about Holset Turbos...

So these turbos are pretty cool and seem to be fairly available at a price I like. I have a T3/T04B "S"-Trim right now that is just been rebuilt, but at 37lbs/min for a flow rating it's not exactly the hard hitting top end monster I think it would be as a .63/.60 flows 36lbs/min I'm still dabbling with kids toys. ;)

My set-up is the standard stock D-Series (Y8) on 10lbs and my preference is towards larger turbos because lag is fine with me because power is only a downshift away and in 1st we call that traction control. 8)

On eGay I've seen some pretty nice Holsets, but I have NO idea what code to look for from HY35 to HX35 to H1C to even an HX25......I'm kind of a n00b all over again.

I also may look into what another member did with a .63 housing (.48 depending on suggestions) and bore it out to fit the wheel. However, the center section looks held together V-Band style and don't know how that would work with traditional Garret/AiResearch bolt in housings. Oh and is the flange a T3 flange (manifold wise)? I thought it was, but not sure.

Basically guys, any and all knowledge about recommendations for a Holset application on my stock D-Series. Thanks fellas!

Oh and anyone want a freshly rebuilt T04b?

h1c is circa 1987, slightly smaller, hx and hy are same size for the most part, any of them will make you 250whp

Any idea about the oil flanges and if my drain flange and oil feed fitting from my T3 will work?

its all based on a t3 center section for the most part.

t3 flange, 1/8" npt oil in, t3 oil out.

Most of them aren't 1/8NPT. You can make it work, but it's def. not NPT thread. I think it's JIC or metric.

if youre only gonna go for 10-12 psi or so youre prolly better off with a T04B/E than a holset, they seem to be absolutely GREAT for high boost (15psi +) but low boost their efficiency is good but not killer.
