Default T25 rebuild (maybe)

thinkin about rebuilding my dsm t25. it seems to be making a wierd pre boost spoolup noise. when i got it it had some shaft play (side to side). either that or buy a 14b. my whp goals when its all tuned are about 215-220. i'm not sure if a t25 can even do that. has anybody rebuilt one, and if so was it a bitch??

why bother with such a small turbo, you should just find a cheap 14b

I have 2 blown T25's. I haven't bothered to rebuild them because the genuine Garrett rebuild kit costs more than the turbo is worth even fully rebuilt. I'd say grab a 14b and rebuild it. IMO a used 14b is a time bomb because it's a 10+ year old turbo and who knows what's starting to go in it. I rebuild at least 5 14b's a month and they're cake. Just make sure to buy the genuine Mitsubishi rebuild kit. Also, you'll definitely need to balance it, the MHI turbos are pretty tempermental, but when they're right they're awesome. They come stock with a 360 degree thrust bearing, so that's a bonus.

I have rebuilt a T25 before though, well freshened one up, but that was only because it blew out on the side of the road and my buddy needed it fixed in order to get home. They're easy to rebuild, but not worth the cost of the kit. I'd grab a 14b core for $50 or so and drop $150 into it and have a zero mile turbo that will easily meet the goals you have and will last for 100k+ miles.

How do YOU do this, is it possible to do without putting it on some expensive machine? when I "freshened up" my teo4h, I just realined up the wheel where it was on the shaft and tightened down the nut pretty hard then until it spun nice and smooth, I have a little over 4 months on it since and it still spools like a champ.

That's why I like to inspect the turbo's personally before I buy them. I've had nothing but good luck with the 14b's I've picked up, but they're mostly low-milage turbo's that I get.

Is the TDO5 the same as a t-25 or is it bigger?

t-25 = garrett turbo
TD05 = Mitsubishi turbo

TD05>T-25
