Not really, mine is a little more reasonable. I'm just asking him to spend like 300 more bucks, not drop a grand on sleeves that he probably won't ever need.

nothing wrong with bbka statement about the forged piston. id rather have a forged piston than vitaras anyday. but since im a cheap basterd with a boosted d, ill stick with the vitaras which are for the budget minded.

the guy obviously didnt want forged. or he wouldnt asked about vitaras. every time theres a vitara thread bbka is there telling people to get forged.and this is not just on HMT. now theres nothing wrong with this. if it was H-T.and theres no diffrence in me telling people to get sleaves. if you wanna do it right. same diffrence. ive seen alot better results with vitaras than forged. mainly cause if some one wants to build a motor it usely is a B-series. and they dont want to stick a bunch of money into a D. hence the cheap Vitaras.

vitaras only work with the d-series motors. b16a whould have to go woth a forged piston for an upgrade.

search on dseries.org...i seen a dyno sheet; d16z6 built with vitara pistons/eagle rods..threw down 400whp.

the post topic was something like "vitara pistons holds 400whp"

Regarding the Vitaras. The Suzuki Vitara used a 1.6l engine with the G16 Engine code. The engine used a 75mm bore, which is a match for the honda D series bore. The compression height on the Vitaras is a little 2mm lower than the stock honda piston, leaving a gap at the top of the stroke, and the Vitaras have an 11cc dish in them. These two things combined, leave the compression ration lower than the stock piston. These pistons will work in just about any d series block, but affect the compression ratios differently in each different series of engine (D16A6, D16Y8, D16Z6, etc.). You'll have to use some of the online compresion ration calculators to determine if using Vitaras will lower your compression ratio to an acceptable level.

The Vitara pistons use a floating pin, as opposed to the Honda pressed fit pin. This makes it almost a neccessity to use an aftermarket rod with the Vitaras. This means that you will need to take your Vitaras ans your rods to a mcahine shop to have the two items mated properly. This normally involves having the pin ends of the rods, honed to match the piston pins, about $40US. I see no value whatsoever, in trying to make any factory honda rod work with Vitaras.

In our own setup we are using Vitara pistons from Rock, the matching ring set from Rock, and a set of our own TT rods. Running 11lbs from a 14B, the car is fun to drive and is somewhat fast, but the compression is so low, that there is no power in the lower end of the RPM range. (BTW, it is an A6 bottom, with a Y8 top, factory Y8 gasket, ARP headstuds, TT Rods, and Vitara pistons.)

Some doubters claim that the lower compression height on the Vitara piston, causes the combustion to happen in the sleeve, instead of the head. So far this has not been an issue for us.

I still believe that this is a good combination for doing a budget turbo build on a D-series. I just think that the 14B is way too small given the low compression ratio. I am looking forward to putting a T3 on this one and turning up the boost.
