if you have a acetilyne torch, i've had luck blowing it out of the threads carefully. it melts alot easier than the other metal.

I use an ice pick. Just dig the tip in the top surface by the edge and try to spin it out. I've done it a few times, sometimes you don't get lucky.

If all else fails, try to find somebody with an oven and put it in there for a few hours. At that point you should be able to take it out by hand.

Now that you mention that my cousin said he used to do that all the time with snapped bolts in cast farm equipment when he was little. The steel bolts melt before the cast and if you were good with a torch it didn't matter anyway. Not sure if the tap steel would do the same.

Snapped taps are a ----- to deal with. I normally try to smash them out if I can get away with it. In this case I'd tack the biggest tig rods I could slide down the flutes and weld the tops together and to the top of the tap and try to turn is out with vise grips. One of those diamond coated grinding bits might work, or even a chain saw sharpening bit .... slick it in a drill press and grind the tap out ... would take ages though.

You could bring it to a machine shop and ....see if they would drill it out for you. Shouldn't cost much, but it depends if they do it or not.

It would be simple with a carbide end mill, just blast a hole though and done.

punch and hammer hit the tap going counter clock wise, probally wont work because its jammed in there= noged up
no offense though you needed to back a 1/4 turn when tapping/re-tapping something hard (ex. real metal )and wants to seize/ use cutting oil next time too

Most hand taps are carbide?!? I would agree there are alot of carbide taps... But a general hand tap, something that takes consistant interrupted-Forward/backing cuts. I dont think so dude. For cost, ---- no! And performance... no way.

Most partsource/autoparts store bought hand taps twist to ---- if you torque them. Which leads me to believe they're not! carbide, Or a decent grade high speed steel for that matter. CivicOCD what kind of a set do you have?

Regardless... When I snap my 3/8" npt hand taps in stainless at work... I drill it out with a fucked up 1/4" carbide end mill at 1800rpm and put a hole through it. Break it and punch the ---- bits out and start over.

If you're ---- out of luck CivicOCD with home done sollutions, bring it to a shop.

Edit- I dont know what your shop does civiceggturbo.
But I work on all kinds of material. Cast, 4100 series, mild, aluminum, zinc hybrids, bronze, copper, plastics, rubber, carbon...
On the manuals, every tap we use is HSS, machine included. I would be shocked if the nc's had a set of carbide.
So, calling me on the insanity of drilling through a tap with a carbide end mill is kind of ...out to lunch considering I've done it a few times.

old endmill in air grinder go real slow, my bad some taps are carbide but most if not all are hard as ---- and shouldn't be taken out on a manual, by hand ftw
breaking taps by hand shows your skill...sorry its true but hand tapping has a feel to it and you have to feel it cut
