Stealth gauges

I hate gauge pods, and for the most part I hate interiors littered with gauges. I know they are neccesary and I will need a Boost gauge, oil press., EGT etc but I don't want 6 little autometer gauges all over my a-pillar and dash, It would be nice to have a small LED disply in the coin holder spot that gives all this info, anybody an elec. engineer that can figure that out? Any other ideas? cheap ideas?

D.

Re:Stealth gauges

I have the same problem. I don't want a big ass gauge pod on my pillar so everybody sees it and thinks/knows I have ---- done to the motor. I haven't figured out where to mount them so they are still visable and functional. It sucks because the pillar is such a good spot as far as vision. Anywhere else you have to look down or away from the road. :-\

I was thinking about scrapping my entire stock gauge cluster and replacing with a 5" tach, EGT, Boost, oil pressure, and water temperature. The only downfall is I won't have a speedo, but the damn thing doesn't work anyways. :-\

Re:Stealth gauges

Eliminating the stock cluster would be cool, but there goes the Stealth look. Besides I NEED a speedo. Although this looks cheesy, it does do what I want, it's just a bit pricey

If I could fit this under the stereo, it would be well hidden but still easily read, I like it much more subtle looking though.

I'm not a fan of digital readouts. With sweep gauges you can train your eye to know where it's at without looking directly at it.

Wow, those are pretty gay. If I had a Metro I wanted to pimp out I might go for that, but no.

put your gauge's in the glovebox duh, then pop it down when you start to drive, plus it wont attract thieves

Yeah, because the glovebox is in my direct line of sight when I'm driving. :P I thought the point of having gauges was so you could see what was going on?

Re:Stealth gauges

no, thats why you spend a lil more money and get a boost gauge with a warning led, then look @ the peeks on the other gauges :P

Re:Stealth gauges

^ Thats what I was thinking.

About the guages in the glovebox, you angle them towards yourself. You have to look over at them which is a bit of a pain in the ass, but definately sleeper. I've seen a few supras done up like that.

Knight rider, good one. ;D Like I said, it looks like crap but it's closer to what I want then this:

This car is my cars polar opposite

Yikes. Anyway, maybe I'll build something into the glovebox, that's the easiest way.

Re:Stealth gauges

That looks clean, would look even better with black faced gauges, but clean anyway. Unfortunately the EG doesn't have quite as big a spot as that on the dash.

slowpoke 11-13-2004 10:19 PM

Re:Stealth gauges

yeah i wish they were black face but i got them for free for helping a guy with his website! ive thought about putting ricerriffic white fauce overlays to make them match better.

Re:Stealth gauges

If you got money to dish out you could go with one of these http://www.defi-shop.com/product/con...ncept_top.html
I think you have to get a bunch of stuff to get it to do what you want.

Re:Stealth gauges

I plan on picking up and extra center vent for my ED, trimming the vents and mounting my guages in it, then making a flat black cover OOORRRR you take a really high quality photo of the unhacked vent, attatch it to the cover and if anyone looks in it'll just look like the vents 8)

Masta 11-14-2004 09:08 AM

Re:Stealth gauges

A flip up cover would be cool, I was looking at the dash this morning and maybe I can build them behind the vents in the centre and integrate some sort of flip down cover.
The Hi-res pic of the vents would be very funny. 8)
