started install today
i started to put my turbo on today and have a few more problems than i expected. first of all my dsm o2 housing hits my radiator so i have to move it over about an inch. but that was after i struggled with my old header and them bolts.
will heater hose work for oil drain? i bought one of those kits but the drain tube doesn't fit over my flange on my turbo. thanks |
Re:started install today
"heater hose work for oil drain?"
Yes, just keep an eye on it, like dont drive it for a year and not look at it, LOL.. Over time the rubber will break down and get soft, but thats basically what I've used on the marjority of our setups. Get some pics up, interested to see whatcha got. Jeff |
Re:started install today
alright, thanks i'll use it then.
have anyone ever had to move the radiator to do there install? i have alot of work to do tomarrow because i need to get my car running again because i start school on monday LOL... i still have to wire up BTM, put in fuel pump, run oil lines, weld radiator brackets, weld a few charge pipes, and extend the o2 sensor wires. Damn looking at all i need to do it doesn't seem like i got ---- done today except my car yanked apart.LOL. does aybody know if my stock o2 sensor will fit into the DSM o2 housing? |
Re:started install today
still not done....i am never changing another car from stock again, yeah right. all my charge pipes are done and welded together i just need to figure something out for the inlet side of turbo because there is some space restrictions, and then wire up BTM. but i know something else will go wrong because thats my luck. i hope it's all worth it when it gets running.
p.s ---- the oil pressure sensor, almost kicked the ---- out of my car because of that. |
Re:started install today
i whould triple check when ur done that everything is tight and not leaking, just a word of advice, good luck

Re:started install today
alright here's an update, i got it all done today and drove it. everything was good except it was kinda loud because i didn't get the downpipe yet. the thing is it has only read 4 psi max...could there be a leak in my charge pipes since i welded them together instead of using clamps? (just learned how to weld when i started this project, not to good at it). but on the way home it started to idle funny, just going up and down like i was revving my engine, it would go from 1k up tp 3k and dwn and back up, i think i might have a vacuum leak. but other then that no leaks or anything.
any help will be appriciated oh yeah my setup is 99 ex d16y8 t-25 turbo with wastgate set at 8psi cartech adjustable fmu 255 lph fuel pump probe bov 2g dsm intercooler missing link vortech btm boost and A/F guages thanks |
Re:started install today
Your wierd idle sounds like a vacuum leak to me. I had the same problem when I installed an aftermarket intake manifold on it pre-turbo.
I had to rework my radiator when I did my setup, but I have an integra radiator in my 93 Civic, so I simple put the fans on the other side of the radiator and wired them in reverse. Also, the o2 sensor will fit the dsm housing. O2 sensors are pretty much standardized. |
Re:started install today
yeah i extende the o2 sensor wires and put it into the o2 housing, and had to move my radiator over a little.
|
Re:started install today
i just checked the vacuum lines and didn't find any leaks but the one going to the btm was kinda loose so i zip tied it. there is a open vacuum source behind the valve cover, between the IM and head, is that supposed to be open? when i cover it it sounds like the car is gonna die.
please help |
Re:started install today
any pics of this open vac port?
|
Re:started install today
if you goto the turbo projects page and look at todds setup in the bottom picture on the cooling page you can see it.
|
Re:started install today
pulled my codes and got a 14,71, 72, 73, 74...so basiclly i'm misfiring on all cylinders and have an IACV fault so i'm gonna change that tomarrow. i replaced all vacuum hoses and i think i might of messed up that little brass colar for the boost gauge because it doesn't move from zero now but when i drive i can hear the turbo spool and the bov open (plastic probe bov). still sounds cool once i get going. there is a shop here in town that was working on a turbo so i went down there to have them check it out, they said everthing looks good except the idle and iacv fault but they said it should fix both when i change it out.....we'll see tomarrow.

Re:started install today
Fix the boost gauge. Thats pretty essential. Also if it fails you can try bleeding the coolant. That sometimes causes weird idling mishaps.
|
Re:started install today
how do i bleed the coolant? because i did have to remove the radiator when i was doing this, that could be it.

Re:started install today
Usually theyre is a bolt up by the radiator hose leaving the engine (top radiator hose). You turn the car on and loosen that bolt until it starts bubbling. You leave it open until no more bubbles. Now my d16y7 however didnt have that bolt. So I opened the radiator cap and let it run for awhile and squeezed the upper hose every few mins. Seemed to do alright.

Re:started install today
Jeff. download that pic on todds page and circle the 'port'. I will PM you an email address to send it.. unless u can host it.
OR you can give a better description of where it is.. cuz i can't see it. |
Re:started install today
BlinD-thanks will try that..
crx88si- will send it now |
Re:started install today
This is the port (circled) that jeff is asking about. This is a pic of Todds engine from the turbo projects page.

Re:started install today
thanks for posting that for me.
does anybody know if it should be open or not?????? |
Re:started install today
okay my idleing problem went away by itself today. don't know why or how but it did. the only thing now is that it jerks alot and boggs down when i start from a stop sometimes. on the way home i was on a hill and tried to go and it seemed like it was gonna die even when i gave it more gas.
my boost guage is still not working but i have to go get one of those little brass collars so i can see if it's boosting or not but i'm pretty sure it is because i can hear the bov. |
Re:started install today
Im gunna go out on a limb and say since todds isn't open neither should yours. Do u have a helms or similar? try plugging it.. can't hurt?
I also read that it idled fine... still fine? |
Re:started install today
it was fine for about two hours and now everytime i stop it wants to die and drops down to about 200 rpm's, haven't been able to get a new iacv because the guy that said "all iacv's are universal" wasn't at the shop when i went there so i got to talk to the jackass assistant who said to come back at 7.
about the plug, it wasn't plugged but i turned the car on and held my finger on it and the revs got quieter and now there isn't any vacuum at all....WTF??but bov still works!?!? i am so lost and confused. oh and i went to schuck's to get new plugs and the guyy didn't even have the two step colder ngk's in his system not even to order, i even gave him the part number i got off of here. i am gonna go try and turn my idle screw up so it stops dieing on me. |
Re:started install today
alright most of my problems have been solved but i still have little to no boost. i thought my wastegate was set at 8psi but now i'm rethinking that because i only see 2psi max on my boost gauge. i have another internal wastegate but i can't tell what it's set at because my gauge is already on the car, i might have to take it out there and rig something up to find out. another question, my other wastegate has two ports on it what the hell are they for?
