I am looking to do a custom turbo kit or run a procharger in my ls1 rx7

Would like some flexible tubing to use as intercooler piping, then I wouldent need a bunch of bends and bunch of silicone couplers, Just one coupler at the turbo and one at the FMIC, one at the other side of the IC and then one at the TB. This stuff looks perfect, its even SS so it shouldent rust. The only thing is I dont know how thick the stuff is or how flexible it is. It looks plenty flexible but if its not sturdy enough and I try tightening a t-bolt clamp on it I dont want it to crush down killing the seal between the flex tubing and the silicone coupler.

Let me know what you guys think. I am too embarrased to ask these questions on the Ls1 forums, but I'm obviously doing a budget build and I know you guys will understand that.

do a little searching in the archives and it has been used before
not sure how well it will hold up to your application though
if nothing else when it blows you can use it as a jig for a solid IC piping route

Search and the site in general seem to be running really slow.. maybe high server load right now, dont know.

In my application I'll be running initially only about 7lbs of boost, prob a lot less than most people on here.

Malichite I am curious as to how that flex tubing is holding up around the tbolt clamps if its strong enough to really crank those suckers down on it.

Anyone else using it and if not, why?

CrxVtec why is it junk? I see guys on here using PVC pipe.. I would think that stuff is junk

 

Just emailed the company selling the stuff and asked him for thickness of he material used and he said its about twice as thick as the cheap stuff. He said its about .04" (which I believe equates to about 18ga) and the double thick stuff is about .09" thick. He said he mainly sells it as exhaust tubing for trucks and that it meets ODOT state of Ohio truck specs (whatever that meens)


He claims its air and water tight.

I might have to test that claim out. Thinking about buying a section of this stuff in 3" diameter and taking a section of it and pressure testing it with a bike pump.

 

I have seen people use that stuff, and it leak boost. I ran pvc for almost a year, super cheap and strong never leak a bit. If I had to do it again on the cheap I would run the pvc again.

 

Thats why I'm gonna pressure test it, if it holds pressure it would be "in my mind" the perfect solution for intercooler tubing, only downside would be the ribbed inside of the tubing screwing up flow

 

if your only running 7 psi i doubt you will have a very badass car where you will notice the difference in the flow from the ribs
