I have only been boosted for a few days now, and I was wondering if it is normal for my car to smoke for a few seconds after i've been boosting it through the gears, like when I come to a stoplight after i've been boosting theres quite a bit of white smoke coming from my exhaust, but only for a few seconds and its gone, doesnt seem to smoke at all when i'm driving or boosting (at least I cant see any). I originally thought it was because I was running rich, but I installed a wideband today and i'm getting high 12/low 13 afr in boost. I know its too lean so i'm not boosting until I get my usb-25 pin serial in the mail. My setup is

Noticed how many times you've used the word boosting but in your final sentence you stated you are not going to boost. Wow! You don't seem to know what the ---- you are doing. Anyway, white smoke is usually an indication that some form of liquid (coolant/water) is mixing with the air/fuel mixture during the combustion process. So, if you are sure about what you are seeing, you might have a blown head gasket. If you can find another source, more power to you.

You are such a joke! You know high 12s to low 13s A/F ratios are too lean, and you were boosting. This is even worst if you have a high compression engine. I hope it's a blown head gasket just to teach you a lesson .

 

My car smokes pretty good, so it's normal to me.

 

as soon as I seen it was so lean I stopped hitting boost, I didnt have the wideband on it for the first day, and I am using a baseamap that was supposed to be pig rich. I was thinking the headgasket could have been blown but wouldnt it then smoke all the time? It just gives me a nice little cloud for 3 seconds right after i idle it down.

I was implying that as soon as I seen that the car was running so lean that I stopped letting it build boost

 

I'm glad you stop boosting when you saw the lean condition. Whatever is causing the white smoke might now be bad enough for the car to smoke consistently or more frequently. After the car is tuned properly, keep an eye on the issue and see if it continues. I hope it wasn't white smoke, and you were seeing doubles.

 

Could it be the head lifting under boost?

 

i'm 99% sure the smoke you are seeing isn't white white like coolant. Burning oil often looks white, but if you look carefully it has a bluish tint. If this is happening once you come to idle after you boost hard...like a nice little cloud of smoke behind you billowing out then i am pretty damn sure its the turbo. Check your return line. Maybe get an oil feed restrictor as well.

 

Yeah, you might be forcing oil out through the turbo seals.

Either that or the high vacuum at idle is literally sucking oil out of the turbo into the inlet tract. Its an early indication that your turbo is about to die (or at least it was for my mate, his turbine shaft siezed).

 

my friends and I always called it boost smell. As far as we figured out it was just blow by gasses and oil vapor getting sucked out of the crankcase by the PCV system. Under boost the PCV system doesn't work so well, but then coasting down and idling it works very well. Most of our boosted cars do it to some extent, and none have had any problems that seemed related to it.

 

MAybe the turbine end piston ring is worn out on that turbo too. That's normally due to carbon build ups behind the wheel shroud. This calls for a preventive rebuild. Refreshing bearings, clips and the piston ring will restore oil tightness of the turbine and reduce smoking.
Oh, and if you didn't try the 1/16" oil restrictor trick yet.... I think it's about time.
