Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
I picked up this T3/T4 from a local I am going to tune a car for. It's very obviously one of those ZY/XSPOWER split compressor turbos.
So here's the question... Since I am already aware of the compressor issue with these, does anyone have any insight or experience with them? How do the seals and bearings hold up? I have two ideas on what I might do. The first is to tig the entire seam of the compressor so I know its staying in one piece. The other idea is to find another compressor housing and wheel and swap it on. What do you guys think about the tig idea? http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...y/IMG_0791.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...y/IMG_0790.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...y/IMG_0789.jpg |
Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
A few tack welds should get the job done if your really concened about it.I would just run it as is.

Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
----, id just run it, id take the wheel nut off and locktite it though., other than that strap it on and ride
much like my mom does to my ass. just strap her on and ride....... |

---- it, i think you should slather your schlong all over it

Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
I'd be afraid to run a quality comp. housing on it that will outlast the current one. Seeing as how it's the weak link, replacing it will create another weak link by giving it the ability to run harder and longer. I would think the second weakest link would be the compressor wheel, but IDK.

omg thats pathetic. But I'm a little sad you forgot your HMT roots. Cover that compressor housing in JB weld :6 |
Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
you should just sell me one of the the compressor back housing retaining plates and then junk that ---- lol

Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
about a year ago i bought a xs power turbo....not knowing at the time it was ----. it also had the black serial tag. looked exactly like yours. Though... i also heard there was a knock-off xs turbo coppied that was a piece. Anyways. i installed the turbo and ran it for about a month untill......
the piece of ---- started making a loud high pitch grindng sound and wouldnt boost anymore....though the fan still spun freely. I took it off and the compresssor housing fan was chewed down about 1/8" so bad it wouldnt even create boost. And when it would spool, it wasnt even a high pitch spooling sound...it literally sounded like the wind howling..kinda funny. But it did pully very hard at 8psi. When i ripped it apart, .....lol...the compressor housing was tack welded together from the inside...and probably only glued together. SOOO you be the judge. If you want to run turbo for a month or so do it. And youll end up re-doing you DP also with a new turbo you exchange it with ;) |

I'm with some above, a couple tacks should remedy any issue of housing splitting, since they'll prevent the split.
Then id also agree on popping the nut loose and adding some locktite... just as usual, mark it keep it from moving and do it. Let us all know how it works out ;) BTW... i love those audi gates. I got lucky and got one that was adjustable... used a self drilling screw into that little top center cap, poped it out with plyers and boom... allen key adjustable... running 14-15psi stock off it with an aftermarket spring (oh and off an HF manifold sticking straight up off it :p) http://129.105.148.252/pictures/piping%20(Small).jpg |
Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
isn't it illegal for a company to copy another company's trademark (ie: SSAuto selling turbos with the "T" logo on them)? Wish someone would sue their asses and make them go under.

Fook just let it ride. It will be fine.

Re: Should I be brave with this T3/T4? (PICS)
FYI there are whole bunch of china turbo thats made with the turbonetic "T" becasue they are making exact copy of the turbonetics without knowing, and Fook, yours is def.ly one of them.
Since they can not sell them as turbonetic, they are all being sold a regular turbo and once the buyer recvie them they are like "wow" LOL and will prob.ly try to re-sell them as the real turbonetics. The compressor housing is not going to crack because the "glue up" one are no more. they are all casted and welded now. And a lot of time these turbo fail becasue the bearing is not oil'ed enough/at all when they are made, so they get killed a lot on firts start up. what u should do is to stick something into the fins to stop it from spinning, start it up, let it prime for a WHILE then hope it last. |

sunof a bitch its nots 2 pieces. The only thing that will give you a problem is the seals or the compressor wheel nut backing off.
