SC61 vs. GT35

K24a2 block - K20a2 head - All stock

ive researched and i want the opinion from HMT! atleast the ones with the turbo's themself. ive heard that the Garrett will spool a little faster. 200-300 rpm sooner? Both are good, but one is better!

I believe they are the same size. The GT35R is ball bearing which would make sense spooling 300 rpm sooner. For my money, the 300rpm doesn't equate to twice the price, and traction control kicks is essential.

agree with stealthy. There is a thread on HT about comparing the SC61 and GT35 if you want to search for it. Went with the SC61 to save me a bundle.

Re: SC61 vs. GT35

same here, i went with the SC6152S which has the T04S trim compressor which is the same as a GT35R compressor, the exhaust section in the GT35R is a little more efficient but it only equates to 200-300 rpm in spool like you mentioned, and a little bit of responsiveness but id rather have the savings in my pocket from the SC61

Wouldn't pulling timing help it spool faster?

No, you're thinking of advancing timing in the off-boost sections of the map to get the exhaust gasses heated up and moving faster. Pulling timing is what you do with these compressors once they actually enter boost ranges. ;)

Get the SC61. I've ran a couple ball bearing turbos and IMHO they are over-rated and over-priced. Not to mention you can't (really) rebuild a ball bearing turbo. I ran a PTE 60-1 on my 4G for quite some time and it was a very nice street turbo and made (at least to me) really good power at relatively low boost on pump gas. Even a measly 15psi put me well over 300whp and at 28psi spiking 30psi on race gas I made 440whp. Those numbers are according to DSMLINK so I have no idea if they are completely accurate, but it was enough to knock off a K.B. powered Rustang and a T67 powered FD. I did get beat by a 3575 powered 1G but he beat everyone so ---- him and his 75mm turbo.

The 3575 is a 75lb/min compressor. If it was a 75mm it would flow a lot more. Sounds like your 4g ran pretty good.
