Say good bye to rusty turbo housing
I spent a day pulling my downpipe and turbocharger off of my car. It wasn't fun only because I drive the thing pretty hard and use anti-lag a fair amount, so everything is very thoroughly heated and stuck. It took about an hour to work the exhaust housing off using a vice and rubber mallet but I got it off without damaging anything, which is nice :) I did my downpipe and housing in TechLine Black Satin 2000F ceramic coating.
Prep work entails: out gassing parts, bead blasting the parts perfectly clean (scale and rust removed), aluminum oxide blasting to open pores on metal surface, and then finally acetone bath before I spray the ceramic. Once sprayed I let it air dry for about 20 minutes then moved it to the over (note: commercial oven don't try this in your house oven or even a house oven not in the house...) to the oven at 800F for one hour. The housing was in for 800F at 1.25 hr - 1.5 hr given its mass. Anyway, pics: Before: http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/525V...oseupturbo.jpg After: http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...bohousing2.jpg Should look something like: http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/E34%...bohousing4.jpg When done ;) I need to clean my compressor housing but I am thinking of redoing it in wrinkle black. I dunno! |

I'd leave it just like that, definately don't paint the compressor housing in black.

That looks so much better. I don't know how it'll hold up but I just painted my turbine housing with a few coats of high temp BBQ paint before I installed it. Of course I had a new one that didn't have years of rust to remove.
